It's very difficult. It took me 38 years to quit. My motivation was to prepare for major surgery and I understood that I would recover faster and have fewer complications if I went into the OR as a non-smoker. So, my motivation helped me with the willpower issue. However, I am basically weak so I used nicotine replacement (gum) and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't really suffer when I quit. I had tried cold turkey many times but always fell off the wagon. This time it stuck and I haven't smoked in 5 years. I also hung out at a web site called quitnet.com. They have a forum where you can ask questions about quitting and I went there daily for several months. It was free when I used it - don't know if it still is but it's worth a look.

There are so many things that smoking does to the body. The really sad fact is that it does not just hurt the smoker. It really does effect all persons around them.
A smoker has increased risk of respiratory and vascular complications. Smoking actually creates a tar substance in the lungs and decreases the persons capacity to take in oxygen. Also smokers veins and arteries are constricted from chemicals in the cigarettes. This puts them at a higher risk for blood clot causing stroke.
Mothers who smoke when they are pregnant usually have smaller babies. A nonsmokers umbilical cord (which supplies nourishment to the baby) is usually about wide as a roll of quarters and the smokers umbilical cord is about as thick as a pencil.
Children who grow up in the home of a smoker are at higher risk for developing asthma and/or allergies. They can develop lung cancer just as easily as the actual smoker can. Not to mention that growing up with parents who smoke puts them at higher risk for becoming smokers themselves.
I have a grandfather that smokes. He is eighty. The last several years he has been on oxygen. He wakes up at night because he can't get his breath. He has a barrel chest because that is what your body does to try and help you get more oxygen. Your lungs try to get bigger so they can take in more oxygen because the cigarettes have destroyed portions of the lungs over the many years of smoking. Some people would say he has made it to eighty and that is a long time for a smoker to live. You have to keep in mind that most of his family lived into or close to their 100's. They say that every cigarette takes five minutes off your life. There is no telling how long he could have lived if he had just been able to stop smoking.

If you never do anything else for yourself in this life, quit the cigarettes.
I used sunflower seeds after quitting a two pack a day habit. It was pretty rough for a week but my mouth got so raw from the sunflower seeds it was easier to just not do anything. Most of the habit is the hand-to-mouth addiction. Try a toothpick or some such. Or chewing gum. The point is throw the stinking cigarettes away and add seven to ten years back to your life

Think of the people in your life being devastated when they have to see you suffer and die young of lung cancer; use imagery and picture the thick, black, mucus dripping from the sides of your lungs, eating away all the fresh, clean, pink, healthy tissue. Think of smelling your fowl breath coming through your yellowing teeth. THEN think of the positives of quitting: being able to breathe quality air; healthy, pink lungs; sticking around for the people who love and depend on you; fresh breath and mouth that people will want to be close to and kiss; running up some steps without feeling faint; how you'll feel like a stud for being so strong and awesome for quitting.

Just stop buying them. Ask your non smoker friends to help you. Grab a hammer and smash your ciggeretts.
Go to rehab.
Run Everyday. Chew gum.

But I think asking your friends to help you is cool because 1st you get to hang around with your friends and you can do crazy stuff to stop.

this is a bit extreme but you could cut off all of your fingers so that way you can't smoke ne more, or u shouldnt have been a retard and started in the first place! HAHA!!

Go to a cancer clinic and ask to see the lung cancer patients and talk to them about what they're going through. See if they have to have their lungs suctioned out.
