If he is unable to get a W-2 from the company, he can use his last pay stub and file with a substitute W-2. He will need to wait until February 15 to do this. By then he will know if he is going to receive a W-2 or not.

Whoever closed out the company should be sending out W-2's, so he might still get one even though the company doesn't exist any more.

If he doesn't have it by February 15, call the IRS.

the company has until the end of Jan to send W-2s. Otherwise, yes, call the IRS.

At least wait until January 31st which is the deadline to get them out.

It might come and you could be worrying about nothing.
