Get him to a vet even if the injury doesn't seem that serious. Injuries to the tail can be a lot more dangerous than what might be immediately obvious so much better to be safe than sorry.

Maybe treat it like a break and set it or wrap it and take him to the vet, sometimes they need to be amputated because you hurt the blood flow in the tail and it can die and rot.

What would you do if you slammed your body part in the car door ? is it bent or swollen? would you leave that part to grow crocked or get infected. NO oh that's rite you are a person you have feelings rite?

OK, go to dog emergency services (vet, hospital, etc)

and btw, your dog must hate you now, or in too much pain to care...

Take him to the vet and make sure that you didn't break it. They hurt like we do, only they can't tell us.
