It is very smart to do your research first.
However, do not make the mistake of researching so long that by the time you decide, the vehicle is sold to somebody else!
Make sure you acquire a "carfax' or 'autocheck' report on the vehicle & have a qualified person look it over first.
Even though you could not find anything inherantly wrong with the model ...that doesn't mean that this one in particular was maintained & taken care of properly.
Good luck.

If anyone worked on your truck before the accident they may not have bled the power styeering system properly. If you had a brake job and the tech pushed the steering without it running it puts an air lock in the explorer steering system. It will show up when you drive on the highway and the entire truck shakes violently. It can be bled out with time by driving or a shop can power bleed it for you. Just being curious but how much tread life is on your tires because if they were good you would not have fish tailed as easily. Ford has an option they call RSC which is a stability control system that can prevent roll overs and accidents such as you had.

2003 Ford Explorer are a great car, heavey on petrol so would stay away unless you really want that cost everyweek.
was going to buy new back in 2003 and i do live in australia.
had a lot of friends that had these cars, and it always came down to petrol even back in 2003 when the cost was lower.
They all loved the car it self and drove great
all the best anyway

I have a 98 explorer and it has been the best vehicle I have owned in 25 years of driving, now I see how Ford has sold 6 million of them in 15 years. Great SUV's.

I had one and it gave me no problems at all. Everything worked great, smooth engine and transmission. The Adrenaline version has a pretty awesome sound system.
