Is it possible to paint my bedroom furniture?

I bought this set from Ikea in the medium brown finish..

--After I bought the set I painted my room hot pink and now the furniture is completeley lost and doesn't stand out at all. So I'm thinking that I should either paint the furniture white so that it will definteley pop or I should just repaint my room to more of a airy brezzy spa blue. Your answers are very serious to me so please help it you can. Thanks in advance.

I love the furniture. Yes, you can paint it, all you have to do is prime the backboard and foot board (with Kilz or Benz) and then paint it white, but don't. The finish is really beautiful, and timeless. You can tire of the paint color on the walls, but what a simple solution. Paint the walls another color. Spa colors are so chic right now (timeless, too) , especially with a calm, neutral blue, and you have the right idea already. Spa blue is so restful, peaceful, and beautiful with your bed. A beautiful blue throw at the end of the bed and throw pillows would set the room theme. Paint the walls spa blue:) A good place to start for this palette is Benjamin Moore. Yes I've done it before. You do need a primer, I found out the hard way. My daughter has this piece of furniture to this day. Ask a employee that knows what they are talking about at Lowe's or Home Depot. Be ready to let it dry for 24 hours or longer. You can't touch it or it will mess it up> so get something nice to sleep on and don't sleep in the paint fumes like my friends dummy daughter did. We both told her and I went home and later on that night she told me her daughter had to go to the hospital from sleeping in the fumes it can cause brain damage among other medical problems of course I didn't think this 17 old had a brain to go in and sleep in the fumes, after being told by two adults about the danger of going into the room that was shut off from the rest of the house Read the paint labels. Love this series from IKEA. You are on the right track...the bed in it's current finish would look better with the "spa" blue color walls. If you want to keep the walls pink though, the hot color combo I'm seeing these days is pink and brown. Not a light, wimpy brown, but a dark, java color. It will most definitely give you the pop that you are after. The Malm series is so urban...I think the java color will keep it feeling that way. I'm afraid if you paint it white, it will lose that urban charm.

Before you can paint it, you have to prime it, or else the paint will peel off. Most likely you'll have to sand the furniture, and then paint the wood with a primer, and then paint it the color you want. Such a major project! Much easier to repaint you room a color that the furniture will go with!

I think white furniture would look snazzy with the hot pink walls! You could change the wall color, but it would give the room a different "feel" and you would have to decide if you really want that.

If you like the hot pink wall color, then I don't see why you couldn't paint the furniture white. or if you don't like the hot pink color then repaint your wall color the blue, but you would have to paint a primer on the walls first to cover uo the pink color.

Yes. You can strip off the current finish, and sand it down a little, then paint on a new finish, or do a wood stain color. It is possible.

yes, possible. i've seen them paint ikea stuff on trading spaces, they used some sort of special primer. go to your local home depot or lowes and get advice from the paint department, you need to go there to buy stuff anyhow.
