If you ran 9.5 for 40 minutes it would be wayyyy more than 450c

Thats a decent amount.

Your only 13 and running on the treadmill is not unnecessary

To put it into perspective. Most people require around 1500-2000 calories a day just for basic metabolism (depending on your activity level and physical attributes). anything you consume over that amount needs to be burned off with activity or it will ultimately get stored as fat. So... if you are eating a pan of brownies or a bag of potato chips each day as a snack you're going to need to burn more than 450 calories to keep from getting bigger. On the other hand, if you are the type who doesn't really snack between meals or when you do tends to eat something that only has a couple of hundred calories in it then 450 calories is quite a bit relative to your intake.

However, one thing to remember is raw calorie intake is only a part of the picture. Our bodies are pretty darned smart about how they do things. If you only eat one or two moderate meals a day there is a long period of time in between refueling. Your body will go into "famine" mode where it thinks it can't tell when it's next fuel supply will be coming so will be more likely to store as much energy as it can (in the form of fat) and is less likely to let go of it. However, if you eat 4-5 small snack sized meals per day (totaling around 1500-2000 calories) your body will believe it is in a time of plenty and will be less likely to store fat and will much more easily give up the fat which it already has stored.

You burn 60-70 calories per mile whether your walk, jog or run. So it would take about 30 miles to burn 2000 calories.

It's a very respectable amount.
I'm 200 pounds so it takes me less time
and speed to burn that much...
I run at 7.2 for 5k (takes 26 minutes)
to burn the same.

That's pretty good for a light person on a treadmill.

Congrats, you just burned off one small order of McD's fries!!!
