The term "how much is too much" is all relative and depends on your location and how much you are willing to pay for a quality education.

The answer to this question really depends on where you live. Both of my sisters have their children in private schools.

My oldest sister pays about $1,200 per year. My other sister (who lives in Vienna, Va, pays around $10,000 a year for a school that admits only kids with a certain IQ level).

Geez...when I have kids, that part will really be a tough decision.

But add some additional details on your location if you'd like.

My parents couldn't afford to send all of us to private schools, so we all went to public schools all the way through high school. Things have changed now, it seems. In my opinion, I would say, anything over $2,000-$3,000 a year for Elementary school is too high. I would think $2,000 or below is decent.

Good Luck!

To a point, what you get for your money is more important than what something costs. Remember that "free" government schools operate at a per student cost that well exceeds the tuition costs of most private schools while producing outcomes that fall way short of a decent private school education. I hate to pay for something I can't use as much as anyone, but my kids' futures are more important than the financial inconvenience I incur from sending them to a private school. While we are being robbed of our money, we cannot let our children be robbed of a future. Unless you simply cannot find a way to do so, send your kids to private school.
