Yes miss sweet 13 the real world is like that and so many other good & bad things. You should not worry about this and put out of your mind. There is nothing you could have done without getting hurt. You can take comfort that you are home & safe. The whole world is not like that but it happens everywhere. Hope this helped or gives you something to think about.

1) you need to tell an adult about what you saw--whether it is a parent, the police, your neighbor, someone at school-- tell an adult!

2) you were right to get out of the area immediately. I carry a whistle with me... but whether I would use it in this situation, I don't know. Noise may have scared off the assailants, or like the others said, turned their attention on you. I mostly carry the whistle for my protection--having been a victim of violent behavior

3) don't EVER take the 'back way" because it is shorter. It is probably also poorer lit, and more secluded. I suspect your parent(s) may have told you this, and you are afraid to mention it. You need to admit you made the mistake of going that way.

4) the world is a violent place.

You did the right thing. Staying out was extremely smart. Think of what those guys would have done to YOU. A young 13 year old girl. Yes, you can take comfort. I would tell an adult. Then you could probably tell local police officers where you saw it. I did this and after that I saw many more policemen patroling the area. If you still feel depressed, see a psychiatrist. If you cannot do that, talk to a school counselor.

There is nothing you could have done except to perhaps call the police when you got home.

The world is a violent place, but it's not totally violent. Seeing things in movies when you know it's just a movie is nothing compared to reality.

You are 13 years old so don't take the weight of the world on your shoulders. One person can make a difference in life, but they can't solve all it's problems.

I know, it's a horrible world we live in on these troubled days. You made the right choice. I know you felt sorry for this poor guy they were beating on, but you shouldn't have joined the fight. You could've gotten hurt very badly. And if someone reported this fight to the cops, you would be on their list too because you would've been in the fight (all simply from association with the real perpetrators). If you see any of these fights, tell local law enforcement immediately. They'll take care of the jerks that were beating on that guy. I'm sorry if all this disappoints you. This world isn't really that great after all, I guess. God bless you and keep you safe.

The world is a really tough place to live in. Outside of the comfort of your own home, there are all kinds of things happening. But take heart, even though there's a lot of cruelty and confusion, there's still good out there, even though from time to time, it's not easy to find in the right place, that's why we need more good people out there.

well you did the right thing to run away.. there's probably nothing you could've done and to say something that probably would piss them off and if you didn't know them they could've done something to you.. something horrible.. they probably just beat him up and left him there and although that is bad it could've been worse and he'll most likely get better.. and if it was a gang.. then he probably did something to make them mad and he'll get his gang after them and it'll keep going.. but you should be very proud of yourself by doing the right thing.
Maybe next time you shouldn't take the back way so that way you don't have to witness or be involved in something like that again.
I hope you feel better and maybe you should talk to one of your family members/friends and they can comfort you.. I hope you feel better =]

Violence is a traumatic thing. It's normal to feel upset over witnessing something like that. Give it a couple of days and you'll relax.

You could have told an adult who could have called the police. It may still be in your best interest to tell someone. It can be reported and you can tell them what you know---it'll make you feel better that you did something.
