While God creates us in an incredible way (Psalm 139), our bodies do not perform optimally and we live in a day and age where medical science can help us immensely. Antidepressants attempt to help restore the brain chemistry so that it functions within more normal ranges to include mood elevation. While this is controversial in Christian circles, I have seen them help many people (including Christians) begin to recover from depression, anxiety and mood instabilities. Don't take the crap about it being a "lack of faith" or any such thing. It can be a medical/physical condition like diabetes lets say, and surely it is "Christian" to take insulin. Depression can be the same way and antidepressants may be called for.

Antidepressant medications are used to treat biochemical imbalances of the brain. Such imbalances can be the cause of depression, anxiety and other problems. If a doctor has determined that you need antidepressants, then he/she probably suspects you need them for this reason.
Your brain is an organ.....it's not YOU.....it's not the same thing as your mind. soul, or spirit. The medications will not change who you are as a person. What they will do is correct the chemical imbalance in your brain so that you can begin to think clearly and make the choices and take the steps necessary to have a better life......and to be the person you are meant to be.
It's not a lack of faith, not a weakness, and not a cop out to take antidepressants. If you had an infection of your liver you would take antibiotics to stop the bacteria. Same idea.
The meds will not change your character for you but they will help you function and think at your best level so you can be the best you.
There is NO biblical basis for denying antidepressants.

God calls us toward wholeness. That may mean more exercise for the obese, avoiding certain foods for those with allergies, an aspirin for a headache, a massage for a sore muscle, a cast for a broken bone. Mental illness in its varied forms can be lessened through medication. God wants us to be well.
Many people in our society use alcohol as an antidepressant. The Bible says alcohol is for those who are dying. It does the body harm as do illicit drugs. Thus they are inappropriate treatments for depression.

I am sure some christians do and have good results.
I think however that an underlying spiritual condition may be responsible. Medicine may help mask the symptoms, but only Christ Jesus can completely cure.
God Bless You and remember to bring all things to Christ Jesus in prayer. Peace.

If you are having emotional problems and your doctor prescribed them to you, of course it is fine. Even Christians get sick and have mental and emotional break downs. God Bless.

Why are you asking people? Ask God what He thinks about it.

I would ask you, why are you depressed if the Creator of the Universe is your Father and loves you so much He sent His only Son to die to save your soul?? If God is for you, who can be against you? Why are you depressed?? Be encouraged, God delights in you, not for what you've done, but just because you are His child!
