meth addiction is a very difficult thing to get over, your brother has had four years to clean up but now coming out he will be put back into that environment. he needs his family more than anything right now, his family's support in staying clean. i know how difficult it is to have a meth addict in the family, my brother was one too, it was very difficult to stand by him and try to support him but we did it, now my brother has been clean for 5 years. he has gotten his GED andis now doing his pre-med education. what really helped my brother and my family was going to support groups. i dont know your situation though, whether your brother did something really bad to your family or what. but no matter he is still your brother and you have to get past that and support him, because what you do for him today will greatly effect what happens to him tomorrow. remember that the things that he did while he was high, he had no control over but if he remembers any of them, he very likely greatly regrets them. i say give him a chance and just try to be supportive because blood will always be blood and no matter what you do you can never change you're family.
i have always wondered what kind of person would disown his/her own family, i guess that would be a person like you.

Our family is going through the same thing with a family member. He just got busted and is probably on the way to county jail for a year, or prison. When a family member has a meth addiction, it is very hard to forgive the stupid and selfish things they did while they were in the clutches of the drug. I don't blame your family at all for feeling the way they do. Been there, doing it now.
But, if your brother has been in prison, he is no longer a practicing addict and should be afforded the opportunity to prove himself worthy of another chance now that he has paid his debt. I hope your family reconsiders their position on helping him, he will need all he can get to become a productive member of the community again. Sit him down and explain to him that the first misstep, and he is on his own. Then stick to it.
If this is impossible, then the only other option is a halfway house.
Good luck

I know how you feel, my husband is an addict also, by asking this question I can tell you still care about his well being. Meth will still a person's soul. Other than a halfway house, maybe a community shelter, if he is clean and wants to stay that way maybe you could convince a family member to take him in. If he's not he'll probably be back in jail in no time. At least he'd be off the streets. If you ever want to chat, you can email me.

This is a tough question. Can he be released into a halfway house? Most prisons have programs where a person gets released in to a halfway house where he can live for 6 months. During this time they are required to find a job and a place to live.
Maybe his family can allow him to stay for few months until he gets a job and his own place.
Other than that, there is nothing else he will be able to do.

There are some apartment complexes just for incarcerated men. Mens homes and stuff. Look on the internet for one in your area. They'll help him look for jobs and try to get his life back on the right track. If it isn't one in your area look around from city to city, ask him if he's willing to commute. Or try to convince your parents that he's no threat. Try the Mens home first. Good luck sweetie.
