I'm not sure they are so in style anymore, but I'm not one to go by what's in style. I had my navel pierced about 14 years ago, way before it was in fashion and most of my friends were pretty upset by it, to put it mildly. They are sort of used to it by now, and accept the fact that I do what I want to do. So, my feelings are, do what YOU want to do. You don't need a bunch of people you don't know giving you answers. And here I am, being one of those people. Reasons not to do it, ok, it hurts a tiny bit when you have it done, but it takes a long time to heal and it's sort of hard to figure out what to wear after it's done. Easier now with hip-hugger pants, we had waist high pants when I had it done and I couldn't figure out what to wear so was stuck in a lot of long dressses. If you aren't the careful type of person who will follow the cleaning tips carefully and put on betadyne or whatever they tell you to do religiously, don't do it. You really have to be careful, you can get infections, even years later. But, you also can get infections in pierced ears. Reasons to do it, only one, because you like the way it looks and you want it. Ok, so some people think it looks trashy, that's their problem. I have rings made by the most expensive jeweler in NYC, and he makes them for Meg Ryan, so if you do it you are in good company. It's funny that over here it's not that easy to find good naval jewelry in good stores, but when I was in France it was everywhere in all the best stores. I've always felt that Americans are too judgemental.
One thing to think about, I don't know when your cheerleading ends, but remember this, you can't go swimming until the hole is pretty much closed up or you will get a very bad infection. I didn't have that problem, but a friend did. Then after it healed she had a baby in her lap who put her foot in the wrong place and tore the ring right out, so be careful that they put the hole far enough back so it won't tear, but in a position where you will be able to change the ring yourself.
As my husband put it, just another place for me to buy jewelery to wear. Have fun.

I think you should get it done but only if you go get it at a major tattoo/piercing shop. Don't go to any small place. I went to Jade Dragon, a HUGE tattoo place in Chicago and although it cost me $100 including the barbell, it did not get infected and the people were so professional. I know people who went to small shops and they had so many problems and they would puss and bleed. I babysat a 2 month old baby the day I got it pierced and was able to sleep on my stomach. It did not hurt at all. Do research on some reputable places.

migration and rejection....
also i dont knwo how long a cheer season is but navel piercings can take up to a year to fully heal.. there is also alwasy the risk of infection but you can always possible eliminate the risk by following the proper aftercare that the studio shoudl tell ouy. if they dont then ask! its very important~!

first, surfer-girl... grow up and stop judging people. Second, I got mine done when i was 15, and it barely hurt at all... just follow the directions and it should do great. My only regret is not waiting to do it until after i had kids, because since i was so small when i got pregnant (5'4" and 110lbs... And so I don't get judged too Yes I am and was married... ) I now have this strange stretch mark that goes right through my piercing... and my sister in law tells me the same thing happened to her... So just keep that in mind.

Just make sure they don't pierce it to close to the edge of the skin or it will rip out like mine did. Go for it!!!

Go for it, I've had mine for over 7 yrs now, and I love it.
Just put bactine on it, and make sure you wear loose clothing for the first couple of days, so it wont put pressure on it.

Well I got mine done about 5 months ago.. I think it's worth it if you have a nice tummy! :)
And plus, don't change it until 6 months.. I tried at 4 and it killed my tummy.. and make sure to clean it with soap and water.. none of that stuff they try to sell you.. it makes it worse!

If you do try Bactine in spray form, spray it a few times a day. It will help it heal fast and will not get infected.
