I find it depressing that it often takes some kind of mini-crisis before people have the nerve to talk to one another, eg stuck on a tube train, waiting for a delayed flight, really bad weather. I still imagine a world where people can just converse with anyone they like without being thought of as freakish (langauge barrier not withstanding, of course!!).
I've probably walked passed you in a street at some point in my 35 years on the planet, and I never even said 'hello'. :(

This is a really good Q. It's almost impossible for me to go a day without smiling or being nice to someone.....who knows what a person goes through in their own life.
I would like to think that i have touched peoples lives and made a positive contribution to them.....after all it is one of the things we can give for free. I would also like to think that i have made contact with some of those people, even if it is only a fleeting glance or a chance meeting......It is pretty powerful thinking!!!

I do it a lot of the time I find it almost an incurable disease when bored and lost in a crowd Lol. Crowded London Tube trains and places where I might have to wait for something I often look at the way other people are looking at other strangers and the body language they give off. It seems like fun to interpret it even though you never know if you are right or wrong

You're right. I do think about this as well. It's worth smiling at the assistant when you go into a shop and even say a few words....doesn't matter what it's about....I'm sure it makes you both feel better.
My dad,(sadly dead now), would always say hello to everyone he met on his way to the shops (quite unusual in London! UK), but they'd nearly always say hello back. He was from the days where people did that.

Yeah, I used to work in fast food and when I quit I started noticing all these people who I recognised but didn't know. Not until the avon lady (no i'm not kidding) knocked on the door and I realised they were all people I used to serve.
Hmmmm I wonder if they recognised me?
Interesting question, really made me smile xXxXx

Actually, I do. I make it a point to smile at people and several people stop me to say that it has made their day that a stranger has smiled at them

Our words can soothe or be sharp like swords. We can help or hinder. We all touch each other, though we have never met.
