I see it every so often in cartoons or skits about chivalry. Couple walks along street, come across mud puddle, man gallantly removes coat and lays it across the puddle for her to safely cross without muddying her shoes. So.....is it rude to expect her to walk AROUND said puddle, and keep your jacket clean?

I don't think it's rude to expect a girl to walk around a puddle, we're not retarded or anything. If anything, I think carrying me over the puddle would be better :P

Probably in the 1900's but who would want to mess up a good jacket when we can just walk around..........what is a jacket going to protect anyway......the water will still go through it..you may not have muddy shoes but they will still be wet!!

Its not rude at all. I take it some girl looked at you like she was waiting for you to do that? She is either a duma$$ or only dating you to make you look like a fool. Either way you need to ditch her if she isn't holding up her end of the relationship.

If my b/f put his jacket in the mud so I didn't have to take five extra steps, I'd slap him. haha
