My friend monika had hers done and she absolutely loves them... she is the biggest wuss, and she says she barely felt it... like i sat there and watched her and she barely flinched. The needle they use has a hollow center, so instead of trying to push a hole for your jewelry a little hole is cut out... causing less pain.definately go to a piercer though... And more power toyou for wanting to get pierced, Regardless of your age. Your body is your temple, Decorate it as you wish!!

Tragus is harder than cartilage. It's closer to the strength of bone and seeing as it's so close to your ear canal and nerves in your cheeks it tends to hurt more, take longer to pierce by a few seconds (it takes maybe 7 seconds versus 4 or 5) and takes longer to heal. They don't pierce it the same as a cartilage. The positioning takes longer because there is less surface to pierce and with the cartilage of your ear right behind it a cork or some catching stopper is placed behind so that the needle doesn't go into your ear. Cartilage takes about 6 months to heal all the way and a tragus takes 8 to 9 months. Any piercing can take up to a year and a half if problems occur or never heal right. Keep an eye on it if you get it done. A good tip is to have a parent take you to a piercing shop, not the mall, and ask them what they do. They can show you a needle, the ring, the stopper, all of it and tell you about how long it should take to heal. Expect some tenderness for a few days to a week and if anything seems wrong talk to the person who did it. Don't play with it a lot, that promotes the germs on your hands to get into the open wound and can lead to an infection. They are there to answer questions as to avoid their clients getting nasty infections that could have been avoided. Good luck!

A tragus is a cartilage piercing. no doubt about it. It takes quite a while to heal. at least three months, probably closer to 6.
It isn't painful. I have a tragus and a rook piercing, as well as several others. It was much less painful than the rook. It was very easy to heal, but you have to follow the after care instructions. Wash it in the shower, soak in saline once a day. I had mine pierced with a barbell, as was recommended by my piercer. It was incredibly easy to care for. It does stay swollen for quite a while, and sore for a while too.

well you will mot likely need to get the catilage pierce. as gettign your small plab of skin you say you have will cause it to look even more weird and it will also have a bigger risk of rejection.. when you do go and get it done they will tell you where you will be pierced.where you soul be pierced.. i had this problem as well.. on the middle of my lobe i wanted a piercing. i had some skin of the er lobe left then it went on to be cartilager. the pierce said it would look weird liek i ahev a bumb on my ear sine the jewlry would be pressing up against the cartilage itself. just get the cartilage pierced! it doesnt hurt that much! 2 of my friends got it done the other day and it was their first cartilge piercing and they said it didnt hurt.. just a pinch. i also got my rook piericed whic was also just a pinch. but it is very fast and the pain is only temporary. but you will most liekly need o get that cartilage pierced since thats what a tragus is (a cartulage piercing)
but a cartilage piercing typically takes up to 3 to 4 months to heal.. but it isnt uncommon for it to take up to a full year.. cartilage doesnt have much blood flow making it a harder area to heal.

If you go to a reputable piercer - they can tell by the shape and angle of your tragus if it can be pierced or not... a certain angle can be done to for those 'odd' shaped tragus's.
Mine healed so quickly - no pain at all. I have cartlidge piercings to and this by far has been the easiest piercing... get it done by a good piercer - use a hoop at first... I would say they heal in about 6 wks.. but nearly pain free...

Lots of info from experienced people. I don't have many piercings, but the most important thing is it to take care of it. Bugs are so dang strong these days, they can kill you even with the meds we have. Be sure to keep it super clean, so easy to transfer germs from our our hands, and not even realize it. Just don't tough it, and clean it with a good disinfectant.
Good Luck, I'm sure you can stand the discomfort, and it sounds like you will really enjoy it.

I had mine pierced and when I asked what it would feel like they told me a punch in the head, but my answer to you is that it depends on your thresh hold of pain. When I got it done the piercing itself didn't hurt it was the care after wards that hurt. Like cleaning it and moving it around. Good luck with the piercing, if you get it.

I had both of mine done. It hurts worse then any other part on your ear. For me it was more then a couple mths to FULLY heal. But the pain is not as bad as having your nipples done.TWICE.
