while I was still searching
but not finding—

but not one upright woman among them all.

I believe you are misreading the verse.
You are misquoting Ecclesiastes 7:27,28
"Behold, I have discovered this," says the Preacher, "adding one thing to another to find an explanation, which I am still seeking but have not found. I have found one man, among a thousand, but I have not found a woman among all these" (NASB, comparing other versions)

The word you supply, "upright", is not found in the text. The context appears to indicate the type of person Solomon is speaking about is a wise person; one who can render an intelligent answer with respect to the meaning of life - that being the whole thrust of the book.
What he is saying is he found one wise man among a thousand men, bu a woman he did not find.
With respect to righteousness, or uprightness, the Bible has concluded all, man and woman, to be under sin:
"The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men,(a general term for all the descendants of Adam) to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt. There is no one who does good; not even one." (Psalm 14:2,3)

Well he did come down on men pretty hard there too. He didn't say there were no upright women He only said he never found one while he was searching. My guess is he was probably looking mostly among men if he actually found one in a thousand. I haven't been able to find that one. But the best I do find are are pretty damn good. BB

my friend do not be mislead by the other answers as this was the scene with regards to Sodom and Gamora. Abraham was talking to an angel of the Lord and was discussing about upright people in general. Many times in the sciptures, the bible says " men " but also means women as well. If you read John 3:16 you will find that this holds true. So just think in terms of everyone when he talks of men it means most of the time " everyone ". OK ?

I think this is either form proverbs or ecclesiastes... proverbs are true in a proverbial sense, generally true but not absolutely always... eclesiates sometimes speaks from the view under the sun, almost from a human perspective and experience... it does not say there are none, this is describing one particular persons search limited by that persons experience and this is Soloman speaking not God... it also does not say how long he looked... and in proverbs there is at least a chapter of a mother's advice to a son, meaning soloman did find a wise woman eventually...yes?

the irony is SOloman married like 1000 women... he dont sound too happy do he... it is also speaking subtly about how marrying more than one woman is not so wise... he in fact wrote a love song, the song of soloman but it is to his one and only

i think it was talking about a land, and as they were searching they found one upright man, but there was not an upright woman there, it doesn't say they're aren't any it said there weren't any in the land at that time

evil is usually ascribed to women in the bible

anything that takes away from a man or threatens a man's position in society

"If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silvers, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days." (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)

On olden times there wasn't much respect given to women. That belief is still very prevalent in much of the world
