It is referring to idolatry. Any deity or thing that is worshipped besides the one true God are other Gods. Also loving any thing in this world that you love more than God is also. There are many people who believe in a all forgiving God that didn't make a hell and is sending everyone to heaven. This is another example of idolatry. Nimrod, Noah's great grandson and his wife Semiramus and their son Tammuz started the pagan gods and goddesses religions. Noah's son Ham saw his father's nakedness and Ham's grandson Canaan was cursed for it. The Canaanite mythology went back to the flood and it was said that Semiramus spawned many gods and goddesses, Ashtaroth, Diana, Venus, Aphrodite, Zoar, Zeus, Baal, Ishtar, Astarte and many, many other names. They made stone and wood idols for their pagan gods and goddesses and gave them different jobs, i.e. fertility, sun, moon, rain, water, fire, love, bull, etc. These are just some that I am mentioning from the Bible. It is said that Muhammad picked out the god Allah from 360 idols and Allah was the crescent moon god.
