The reason that they are called insurgents rather than regular forces is that they are a devious bunch, and they have to be because they cannot fight the invaders directly because they don't have Air power and Tanks and Armoured vehicles, heavy guns and Helicopters. Just like they never had in Vietnam. As Ho Chi Min said after that war, " We never lost a single Aircraft - because we never had any."

I want to ignore your ignorant comments, but I just want to say the US did not murder civilians. On the question of the Iraqi insurgents being terrorist or freedom fighters. Well let's think, we invaded a country that was ruled by a very ruthless and vicsious dictator. He ruled his country by fear. We invaded and freed the Iraqi people of this tyrant. Now we have helped them set up a free democratic government. The people are allowed to protest in the streets now, something they couldn't do before during Saddam's rule. These people have been given freedom, so how can you say that Iraqi insurgents are freedom fighters? They aren't fighting for the countries freedom. The US is not standing in the way of these people being free. The insurgents fight because they want a strict Islamic-law based government, some fight because they want the country to go back to when Saddam ruled it (probably because they benefited from other's suffering), then finally others fight because they aren't smart enough to know that the US will leave when everything is stable, so the more unstable things become the more hard headed and stubborn the US can and will get and then hang around longer to make sure things are safe for the majority of Iraqi citizens. These insurgents are terrorists, because when does bombing a mosque hurt the Americans? It doesn't it only hurts the Iraqis and for that matter alone these people are terrorists. You can't be a freedom fighter when freedom has already been given to you.

You are correct. The insurgents ARE pathetic and afraid, but not in the way you stated.
The insurgents (oh come on, let's just call them what they are: terrorists) are pathetic because they cling the ignorant, backward mindset of someone living 1500 years ago. The terrorists ARE afraid. They fear progress. They fear participation of women in society. The are selfish and intolerant of any opposing viewpoints, so they try to topple the democratically elected government of Iraq.
So, as you see, you were right about the terrorists being pathetic and afraid.
However, they are fighting smart. The concept of bravery has very little meaning when the U.S. can easily lob missiles from 200 miles offshore and obliterate everything in a city block.
Some of the terrorists actually are a tough bunch. However, it's great when they are captured and put on tv. The Iraqis have a tv show where they expose these "brave" terrorists who often are pathetic little cowards when they can't anonymously injure and intimidate their enemy.

Come on!! Are you 11 years old or just plain stup_ d? Imagine someone is attacking your home with powerful weapons and all your family is there, from your mother and father to your kids, and the only thing you can do is to shoot your little tiny gun a couple times a day, you know, trying to make them go away.
In Vietnam they were hidding in the jungle, They had holes and tunnels all over, and what about land mines? What's happenning in Iraq is a little different but not new, you hear more about it because the way the news are handled today is different.

this is not a conventional war, when faced with a superior number of troops with better training and weapons the only tactic that is left is guerrilla warfare.if it were a conventional war it would of been over a long time ago. in a guerrilla war you have to basically destroy the civil rights of civilians by going house to house and looking for weapons and fighters, basically take them out one by one. the US doesn't have the stomach to fight a war like this, they believe that 140,000 troops is enough to take care of fighting a guerrilla war but it isn't I'd say about half a million, go in disarm the populace and flush out the insurgents, and kill them were they stand not let them go. that is the only way to kill the insurgents. and your right they are afraid because they won't win even using the tactics they are using, it's more of a stall tactic, slowly reduce opposition numbers, and turn there own people against them. that's why i think they might have a chance on winning. the bleeding heart in this country will call for the removal of troops because of the death rate they are inflicting on us. but historically this is the lowest casualty conflict the US has ever fought.

But it is working, no? A country does what it needs to in a pragmatic sense. The Vietnamese defeated a superior American force with the same guerrilla tactics, as did the Afghans against the Russians. Only an idiot would pit inferior forces against superior ones in a straightforward, direct engagement.
What do you expect them to do, line everyone up and charge in Braveheart fashion? Guile has always had an important place in the history of warfare, from ancient times onward.

The answer is simple and a basic part of the art of war. Never fight an enemy on his own terms. You will always lose. For them to engage in a stand - up battle would be foolish against superior forces. They do what they can with what they have.

Umm, an Insurgent is an IRREGULAR fighter. They dont fight in conventional ways. Im sorry you think its cowardly but it isnt, this is war, your suppose to use everything at your disposal to fight the enemy and if all they can do is sniper attacks, raids, shooting down apaches and an F16, and alot of IEDs that smart and good on thier part, because its working for them, this isnt about playing far.
