If you have a small closet or a bathroom that you can close off with a baby gate or a board or something that they can't get over do that and lay down puppy training pads all over the floor. Newspapers work too and when you cant take puppy out it will pee on that and then gradually eliminate the paper till you are down to one square...then gradually start moving that piece to the door....you get the picture! This worked on all my dogs...I have two with one just having puppies!

I relate big time to your dilema, as I have trained all of my dogs to go to the toilet outside. All are so different, however, they do love to please. It is a constant battle and very demanding, but you need to be at it very "often".Use a word, such as "toilet" or "outside", and put your puppy outside as you say this.Go with puppy and wait, or say the word to him.Once he has done his business, praise him with a beautiful loving voice, and offer him a treat if you like, for doing it outside.Keep a watchful eye on him and continue to take him out, even if it's every 15-20minutes, as this repeated action will make him know where to go.They just love the praise and the fact that you make such a huge fuss of him when he's gone outside.
When he has an accident indoors, show him, and say a very firm,NO,then immediately take him outside again.
MOST of ALL,be persistant.
My dogs are great when I'm home, but when I'm out, they still make an awful mess indoors.Im grateful for any suggestions also.
GOOD LUCK!!!!

It is really easy. The puppy must be taken outside on a regular basis to an area where you want it to pee or do its busniness. For a young puppy that means every couple or hours or so.

They get use to it because of the repitition and in time will go out themselves.

You must crate train the puppy.Keep the puppy in a crate, and when you let puppy out, take directly outside, and let him urinate, then play, reward, and put back in crate.Do this every two hours or so,for a few weeks, slowly teaching the puppy that outside is where it should pee.If an accident occurs, the puppys crate can be cleaned alot easier than a carpet.

You should know that the puppy will not go where it lives, so you need to keep it with a leach restricted to a small area about the size of a drop rug. This will be his home till he becomes house trained, take it out every couple hours. Try this for a day or so and see if it doesn't work.

Pay attention to the freaking dog and chances are you will catch it in the act. When you do say firmly 'NO' while facing it close to the accident so it knows what your referring to then take it outside right away.

Telltale behaviour is the dog will start sniffing for a place to go usually along the borders of the room. Please remember to keep the dog in a secure room at night untill it is trained.

Is it a male or female and how old? If your dog is a male it could be just because he is marking. You can't really take that habbit out of him. If it's a puppy some training tips are whenever you take him/her outside, when they go potty be sure to reward with treats OUTSIDE, never inside. If your dog is older it could be a sign of kidney problems.

DO NOT rub it's nose in it. Buy a crate. You should take the pup out after it eats, wakes from sleeping, and after playing. If it can't be supervised, put it in the crate. But not for hours on end, as pups can only truely hold it for about 2 hours.

Take the pup out on a leash and use a command such as "go potty"....stand and wait...you can walk with it, but it gets no attention from you until it pees/poops. As soon as the pup has finished, praise it like crazy! Don't wait to praise when you get in the house....do it immediately!

Make sure you get up in the night and take it out as well. Just like a human baby, who needs its diapers changed in the night, your pup will need to go out.
