It bribes people to behave properly.
"If you become a 'good' person, I will approve of you ('forgive you') and you won't be so worthless".
Pathetic.

If one is a Christian, it is very important to forgive.
Even more important, if we refuse to forgive others when there is a basis for mercy, it can adversely affect our own relationship with God. God does not just ask us to forgive one another; he expects us to do so. According to the Scriptures, part of the motivation for us to be forgiving is in order that Jehovah might forgive us or because he has forgiven us. (Matthew 6:14; Mark 11:25; Ephesians 4:32; 1 John 4:11) If, then, we are unwilling to forgive others when there is sound reason to do so, can we really expect such forgiveness from God?

All human beings make mistakes as you recognize some more advantageous than others yet, that is extra effective to call it truce and forgive those who were once disloyal to us, or betrayed us in away. In a friendship operating example one component between both acquaintances or how ever many acquaintances properly some thing is going incorrect contained in the friendship and also you not in any respect communicate lower back you would imagine its the right component to do at that second in time yet in later existence you'd be apologetic about it and obviously you should flow on in the adventure that your friendships/bonds are strong sufficient you'll pull with the help of yet there is also a much off memory and interior you won't be able to ignore it continues to be there with you.

Because it sets both the forgiver and the offender free. people who don't forgive are generally the most miserable of all people. try visiting a nursing home and watch those who are the meanest nastiest people, they don't forgive anyone and are incapable of enjoying anything good. Seriously, If you have to ask this question you have yet to experience someone else forgiving you...try asking some time.

If you have any communication at all with others then sooner or later conflict will arise. If you have faced your own sin and know that God has forgiven you then forgivness will come naturally toward others. It's not completely without struggle, but in the end forgivness wins out.

1. Psychologically, forgiveness is important in order to free yourself of many negative emotions that affect both your emotional and physical health.
2. Spiritually, forgiveness is important because we can't expect forgiveness ( living relationship with God) if we are not willing to forgive others.
3. Socially, if we bear a grudge toward one person long enough, we end up bearing grudges toward more and more people, and we become relationally impoverished.

One reason is that it can physically make you sick to hold on to anger and resentment but the most important reason is that God says he will forgive us to the extent that we are forgiving of others. We need his forgiveness to even survive.

Forgiving have something to do with getting closer to God. As someone who have sinned all my life, If I wanted, He would forgiven me of my sins. I show others God, through the action of my forgiving.
If I can not forgive, why would God forgive me?

In a purely sociological and psychological sense, it is not good for any of us to hold grudges, anger and hatred toward another. We are the ones who suffer more than those that we don't forgive.
As far as religion is concerned, God says that He will forgive us AS we forgive others. If we don't forgive, we will not be forgiven.
Matt 18:23-35
23 "Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
26 "The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' 27 The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
28 "But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he demanded.
29 "His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.'
30 "But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened.
32 "Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' 34 In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
35 "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."
