Hi there...sudden ptyalism (excessive drooling) may be caused by several possibilities such as periodontal tooth and gum disorders, kidney failure, Damage or paralysis of the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V), accidental ingestion of a toxin, etc. If bad breath is also noticeable it may be as a result of periodontal disorders of the teeth and gums: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/news/badBreath.htm

my cat started drooling when he got hit on the head and shaken up by a child (boy did he get beat) so it could be a problem with his brain. Take him to the vet, give him plenty of water and make sure he doesnt eat the grass for a while, until you totaly know whats wrong with him.

A lot of people can't really, without a thermometer. Has your kitty had his teeth cleaned? It might be that he needs it done.

Since he is eating and going to the bathroom all right, he might be all right until Monday. But keep both eyes on him until then.

Good luck!

if you have a rectal thermometer and are able to take his temp"don't forget to lube it"do that , a cat's normal temp is 102-103 if it's higher then he has a fever. although obviously hard to say without seeing him, my best guess considering his age would be an abcessed tooth or severe tartar buildup, good for you for getting him to the vet, my cat is totally my baby too!!! as long as he is eating o.k. monday should be fine. hope this helped, good luck!

Kitty could be suffering from a toothache. Check his mouth and teeth... are his gums looking inflamed? Is there tartar build-up? Does his breath smell foul? Cats that have mouth issues usually drool. And your kitty is 13 years old... he could have bad teeth. Have that checked out!

It might be something wrong with his teeth, one of our cats was doing that to and we took him in and the vet said it was a gum disease. Good luck

Sounds to me that he was poisoned or something. Bring it to the expert right away. Try to feed him something sweet, maple syrup maybe. Sweet seemed to worked on poisoned animals. Tried it on my dog before and it worked okay. Good luck!

at that age he may have a bad tooth or a toothache, if his breath is killer then that may be all, try and save a stool sample (sounds gross) but it may make it easier to detirmine if he may have a parisite (even indoor cats get them), could be an allergy to something new in his enviroment to, any new changes in diet?
