I've lived in the northwest for most of my life. I've visited California about 4 times and i love it there. I have family, sun's always shining, the beach is there - i love it. For some reason, i feel that California is more "home" than the northwest (even if i've lived here longer than i've ever been in Cali). In Cali, i feel so much more comfortable going out more (especially at night) and i'm soo happy - WHY??????

The amount of sunlight you get in your daily life determines a LOT how you feel. More sunlight, the more happy you are.

There is no accounting for taste and preferences. If you like it so much there, you definitely haven't been able to stay there long enough to see its drawbacks. I am a native of the state and used to love it there. I am also a recent transplant out of there, and very happy I made the move. But, you may love it, and more power to you. But, if you decide to move there, have lots and lots of money or a darn good job lined up. It will take every penny you make to survive unless you are a movie star, millionaire or degree holder.

when i first move to ireland, i felt the same. i am from bali, indonesia. we have the sun everyday and i live near the beach. while in ireland, mostly rain, cloudy, shower and windy. we be lucky to have a sun for few days in the summer.
but because i live there so i have to make some adjustment to my preferrences. i don't drink before but now i found it enjoyable to meet some friends over for drinks in a pub. this just one of the thing that i love to do in ireland.
so try to do something new in the northwest, something that makes you happy. i don't think it's that bad. you just need to change you preferrences. we need to adjust everything when we live in a new place.
go on try find one...?

I believe every place has a different feel about it. If it feels right then move there.
