A dog showed up at my house and won't leave. My friend thinks it's pregnant. How can i tell, if it is, and how far along, WITHOUT taking it to a vet?
I don't know who the owner is, it has NO tags. But, has had a leg removed.

Thanks.

We had an unltrasound on our girl for her first litter & it was too far off to do it again for her next. They saw 4 pups, she had 8. They said we had about 2 weeks left, we had about 2 days. It could be a false pregnancy, or she could have major complications if it is pregnant & doesn't have medical attention if she needs it. Best thing to do is bring her to a vet or some place that can help wtih that situation.

call your local animal control office, whoever they send out SHOULD be trained about how to tell and if they don't know they should take them to a vet and the vet will be able to tell as most of the time animal control officers should take dogs to the vet anyway to find out about their physical conditions.

If she is noticeably pregnant she's prob halfway or more through her pregnancy. They usually birth around 62-68 days. Hope that helps a little!

There is no way to tell from home. An ultrasound is the only way to determine to a close call the gestational period.
