We are moving to an area surrounded by national park and native animals and have decided to house our cat in an enclosure 6 meters by 6 meters by 4 metres high she will also have access to the house most of the time. I fell guilty locking her up shes always been able to come and go as she pleases.

in the long run you will be saving her from predators, diseases and getting lost as long as she can be indoors most of the time she'll be happy and healthy, indoor cats have much longer lifespans than outdoor!

Are you talking about adding a safety pen to protect her from wild animals? She will not like it, but she will adjust. I would suggest, however, making it 6 meters high. That way you can put in tall climbing posts, platforms for her to jump to etc. so she can still be active and entertained. You may want to have a tarp cover over part of the top to protect the enclosure and give her a cool spot to be in. I would also suggest having a cat door with access to and from the house to the pen so she can come in when she wants to.

What an excellent idea!!! You are doing a very good thing by your best freind! I also recently got an outdoor enclosure for my two cats becuase of the large number of racoons and squirrels in my neighborhood. Its really a doggie kennel 13 ft x 7ft x 7ft with a tarpaulin cover. I made it interesting for the cats by placing driftwood and chopped tree trunks and plastic plants and flowers and wooden ledges... This spring I will add a "tunnel" made of plywood and maybe a cat "tree". So far, the cats seem to nejoy being out there when it isn't too cold.

You are doing the best thing for your best friend. She is your responsibility and just like a mom, you have to keep her safe. She might not like it to begin with, but she will adjust. I don't think you could live with your self if you found her little crushed body on the streets or never saw her again, because some animal got her. I am sure this is the best thing. I have been over this more then once. I have 10 cats.

Sounds good. Keep her safe. Lots of wild animals like foxes will eat cats as they are an easy source of food.
