I heard that when your sleeping and you dream of say yourself falling off a cliff or falling out of a jet then u wake up suddenly, that that is your body sending adrenaline to your heart to get your heart rate higher, because its gone to slow. anybody know anything about this?

Yeah I get the falling thing to, just before I fall asleep and always my left side. I get the adrenaline surge and the panic too.Think it is to do with the tree thing. We still have a lot of leftover behaviour from those days.

I think the dying thing is just an urban myth, quite rightly who can be here to report it as fact? I think its an old survival thing, monkey wary is better than monkey dead. Also im left handed so most of my activity is on my left hand side.

Wow that is crazy because I have had this same dream for most of my life. I have always wondered if there was something to it. I would also have the same dream but seeing myself dying by hitting pavement and my guts getting spread all over the ground

I don't give much credence to the idea that if you hit the ground, you die, because if someone died how would anyone be able to ask them what they were dreaming of?! Most dream dictionaries I have say this one is totally hormonal, and they say you have them less and less often as you get older (guess I will have to wait and see.)

Power of suggestion! In the early 80's my friends dad mentioned that he hated dreams of falling. I had never had one up to that point. That night I dreamed I was driving the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard and we hit this HUGE dirt jump that sent us flying off a cliff! I remember this sickening feeling in my stomach as I floated out of my seat and slipped out the window into a wicked free fall. Woke up right before I hit the ground!!!
As Rosco would day......Kudew Kuew Kuew...... I luv it, I luv it.........get'em Flash!!!

A similar sensation is that of falling as you are going to sleep. I have heard that it may be a throwback to when we were monkeys living in the trees

Apparently, you always wake up before you hit the bottom. The reason you wake up is that if you died in your dream you would die in your sleep. That is why on the very rare occasions it happens people are found dead in bed and have died for no apparent reason.

I have often had this experience, I wake up and my heart is pounding. I doubt its your heart trying to beat faster, maybe just something that happens while ur asleep. No biggie, happens to eveyone.
