I did that with my mom when I was younger. Try starting it out like this:

"Dear Mom,
I've been doing some bad stuff lately at school and at home, and I wanted to write you this letter to explain it you. Also, I have been depressed and I wanted to tell you about that too."

Then just write whatever you want her to know about the stuff you did. Maybe like why you did it, if you felt bad about it afterwards, how you would do it differently if had the choice to do it again.

Then write whatever you want her know about you being depressed. Like why you're depressed and if you want help with that (anti-depressant pills, doctor or counselor, or whatever.

and then include suggestions for how your mom can help you with your depression and what she can do to help you act better at school and at home.

You could end the letter like this:

"so those are my suggestions for how to help me act better and get over my depression. Please don't talk with me about this unless I talk to you first. Please just write me a letter back to tell me what you think."

This letter-writing system worked well for me and my mom all through my teen years when I wasn't comfortable talking about things with her.

I battled with depression for several years, so I know how important it is to reach out to someone who can help. I hope this was helpful to you, and I hope you are feeling better soon.

*ugh* I did that when I was a teenager, It did NO good. Looking back I can see why; telling someone why a problem is going on isn't actually helpful. The only thing that solves problems are coming up with solutions. For example- instead of "Dear mom I failed English because I was doing crack" what would be more helpul to you and her (to help you) is :"Dear mom, I failed English because I was doing crack. I need you to take me to rehab so I can detox and improve the rest of my life". You need a plan to get ack into action (on whatever it is you're talking about) That will be the best solution in the long run!

I totally know what you are going through. I have written a letter to my dad. Make sure you are open with her and let her know how you feel. Its the best thing to do. And try talking to her. Shes your mom and shes there to help you.

I would get on the computer (microsoft word or whatever you have) or make it personal on a piece of paper and just start out with Mom, I don't know what to say but... and let it go. It doesn't have to make sense and she will understand.
