I know that you can't touch dry ice, but on the bag it says that you can put it in some type of beverage and drink it. How is safe to drink it but not touch it?

We made a punch with dry ice for the look of the "dry ice fog", it does not doing anything to the drink besides keeping it colder then regular ice would for longer. But you have to use a dipper and make sure that you don't have any dry ice in the glasses because you can get "burned" by the dry ice if you touch it and that really hurts.
It is safe to put in drinks because you are not really drinking it. As it "melts" (which is really evaporating) it goes into the air, not into the liquid like regular ice.

No need for you and your mom to go into hysterics over the unknown scary chemicals! Lol. You will be perfectly fine. People use dry ice in drinks for cool effect - maybe I'll get some for Halloween. Heck, google dry ice drinks.

It won't hurt you because you can't drink the smoke it makes when in a mixed drink. You can inhale the CO2's cold vapors, but that might give you a stuffed up nose and you don't want that, do you?

It is solidified carbon dioxide. When it contacts water it creates the vapor known as "dry ice fog". I doubt it would harm you if placed in a drink UNLESS your mouth came in contact with the actual dry ice.

It is so cold that touching it will actually burn your skin, causing possible frostbite, but in a drink you are not touching it, so there is no danger!

It's just carbon dioxide that's VERY cold; you drink CO2 all the time if you drink carbonated soda. It shouldn't hurt you at all.
