As far as self-sacrifice goes, he explains to the other slaves why he is going away peacefully and without protest after he is sold. He knows that he is a good worker and is very valuable. When the owner is in debt and has to sell someone, he sells Tom for a good price. If he kept Tom, he would have to sell many other slaves in order to get the same amount of money. The slave buyer is going "downriver" which is synonymous with hard labor and mistreatment of slaves. Tom saves many slaves by going.

Did you read the story? If so you should be able to figure it out...what good is our spoon feeding you answers do but teach you that you don't have to work for anything (and you'll find in the real world that is SO not true).

Read the story...think about what you know about bible and christian mythology, and then put the two together. You can do it!
