Kids with ASBO's finding it cool, boys/girls growing up faster than they should, little girls wearing grown up clothes - over trendy. Why is everything so fast, as when I was little, we were dressed up in little girls clothes. The other day a was in a q at blockbusters and saw a girl of eight/nine wearing knee high boots, polo neck top and a short skirt - I found it distasteful.

Is it me or i our kids growing up TOO fast?!

Way too fast. I don't know what has happened to the Western world. What happened to parents saying "NO! You will NOT!''
Talking with an older friend, a lady of 60 and professional uni educator, she thought that the trend now is to raise little girls to be whores in the making by an early age. This lady is not judgmental, and to be honest. I think on the trail to truth.

I agree little girls should be dressed like little girls and teenagers should dress like young ladies. The clothing writer is referring to is something most adult women would never get caught dead in so I choose not to call it grown up clothing. I am not of the belief that dressing like a female would always have to include a dress or skirt but also see parents dressing their little girls like boys and also teenage girls dressing like males. Where is the modesty in that? At least the local Walmart has done a bow face on the clothing they put out this year...not sure about the malls. Wearing a micro mini skirt is not dressing like an adult it's showing off as much skin as one can get away with on the verge of exposing the rest. Last year I found it almost impossible to find a tasteful everyday outfit for my grandsweetie. I'm glad she's not tall as the outfit I purchased was designed to be short but on her the designer didn't get their way. Notice the prom gowns? Out with the skin tight and in with the ball gowns...they are absolutely gorgeous and it's about time a formal dance will be about dancing and not wearing tight gowns that professionals know they spent no time designing yet charged top dollar for very little material.

If a child is going to be in a pageant what on earth is up with all the makeup? Pageants should only exist for a parent to support a child's gifted skills not to parade children around like painted objects and personal trophies. People understand the lights make a person appear white as a ghost so if makeup is used it should be used to the point of natural skin tone and nothing beyond that.

If kids are growing up too fast, whose fault is that?
Parents are responsible for what their children do, but this seems to not be the case any more with so many saying they can't do anything about it.
Well, that is nonsense. Few children will be so unruly they cannot be managed and anything less is a demonstration of a familial version of poor management.
I would like to see children's misbehaviour linked to punishment of parents with fines and even custodial sentencing so that they either deal with the child or get shot so someone else can have a crack at taming them.

I presume when you got dressed up as a little girl you were a female.
But yes, some kids are growing up too fast.. I blame the parents, who probally both work, and give in to the kids wants in lieu of being there for them. In years gone by, mum was at home, did the household chores, and was home when the kids were home. And spent time with them, homework as well as fun things. But now everyone wants what we had to wait years for, straight away, hence two incomes, and whos holding the baby, someone else!!

I hear you. I constantly get after my stepdaughter for dressing her 4 year old like a hoochie mamma. I have seen middle school aged girls that look like they are in their teens. At that age do you blame the parents? If you have a teen and you don't take them to the right store or let them buy what they want to wear they pitch a fit, i have heard it in the stores The parents give in. I remember my mother telling me and me telling my girls, " you are not leaving the house like that or going to school like that" What's the deal now? It is sad, and we wonder why girls are being sexually abused or raped, to some men their attire says " here it is come and get it" even though the child does not know they are relaying that message. I had lived in Puerto Rico, and the girls attire had gotten so out of control that the public schools had to go to uniforms, but it was not long before the girls shortened them so much that it really defeated the purpose.

With such a high paced, fast food world kids are growing up quicker. I think it is distasteful of the parents to allow their little children to dress so inappropriately at such young ages.

Kids are growing up way way to fast. These little girls all want to be Britney or Paris or Lindsay. How awful it that....Some great role models they are. Plus everything is sex orientate, girls are having sex younger and think they are only desirable when they are halfed dressed or having sex. It's really sad to me. Kids just need to be kids. Being a grown up is no walk in the park. I'd do anything to be a kid again.

I was just watching MTV today, and that very question came to mind...when MTV started, it was all about music, videos, etc. And "adults" then were all up in arms about the content of the music and the videos. What they are showing NOW? Makes the MTV from the 80's look like something from the Family Channel. The girls on these "reality" shows dress like call girls and pretty much act like them too, the guys aren't much better, jumping from one girl to the next, add in the drinking, the partying, showing kids who obviously have more money than common sense and where are the parents in these "reality" shows? Are they proud?

Their dress is determined by their mothers. Many mothers are making sure that their daughters are "Hos'" in training. Look at the mothers with their skirts too tight and riding up on their wide butts. Their legs encased in high heel boots that make their legs look like tree stumps, and their saggy breasts poking out and making everyone gag at the sight of these wrinkled old bags. Then mom is so tanned and leathery that she looks like a crocodile. But--she wants little debbie to look just like mom does.

Disgusting!

20yrs ago kids had clothes that their parents could afford to put them in, mobile phones didn't exist and computers were a luxury.

We live in a society that wants everything and wants it now (hence credit card debt). Its too easy for kids to emulate adults because they have the disposable income of an adult. Parents work longer hours and because of stress and pressure the basic, key parenting skills have become lost...you are just glad to have an open dialogue with your kid(s).

Everything is media driven and peer pressure is immense...in my day smoking was the 'cool' thing to do....nowadays its smoking, clothes, moby fones, psp, drugs, trainers....if you don't look like a z-list celebrity then you 'aint nobody!

Kids do and are growing up too fast - media, stress, peer pressure, money are to blame.

I'm 33 with 2 young kids (5&2) - i had little, they have everything, i admit i am partly to blame!
