I was asked today why the Viet Nam War had so many organized war protests and I replied I thought it was because of teh music. the songs moved the hearts and minds and the demostrations followed. The trouble is you have no one today! Have you ever even heard of Country Joe McDonald or John Prine? Listen to Prine song "Your Flag Decal won't Get you into Heaven" you'll see what I mean. Ar you really against the war and why?

Just a few observations if I may - Yes the music was the inspiration in the 1960s, and it did help the anti-war protests/protesters to hear music that was not afraid to be political - the songs (like Country Joe's) certainly had a lot more spirit than the songs at the time about cars, surfing, and girls... Anyone who disagrees with the RIGHT to protest any war in the United States has a problem with the(ir) Constitution. That includes all those who served their country in the military yet for some reason DENY this right to others.
I am not against the war in Iraq. What turned me off about anti-war protesters today (not in the 1960s) was the fact that they were really protesting the U.S. The anti-Bush statements, flag-burnings, and signs like "Death to the Infidel" (London and Jakarta) convinced me it was not just about war. If they were truly anti-war they would be also be protesting the war in Somalia.

I believe that if everyone would take a couple of minutes a day to actually study the current war and prior wars for themselves and quit forming opinions based upon what everyone else says or thinks you might be amazed at you kind of opinion you may actually form on your own. I'm not saying that you will or won't agree with what's going on, I'm just saying that anyone who can only form an opinion on what others say is really selling themselves short. Questions like this one should not be asked, but researched on your own. The most dangerous weapon out there is ignorance.

In Vietnam we had a draft and people didn't want to go... so hence more protests... no we have an all volunteer army so every one in the war signed up for it... also we lost over 50,000 soldiers in Vietnam opposed to only about 3,000 in Iraq. So, there are less protests now...

Who needs protest songs when you have professional protesters?

I'm not against the war, but then I believe that once troops are committed, the nation better be committed too. Anything else is criminal, and I don't care who the president is.

Wars will always be controversial. I think the best way to view war is to first understand your own heart. The answers are a lot closer to you than you believe.

Its always easy to talk about peace, to write a song about peace, and to sing a song about peace....its another to thing to act on it.

People are so quick to criticize war and yet in their own personal life do not know how to make peace with others. Do not demonize what yet you do not understand in your own heart and in your own life. You cannot preach peace if YOU yourself act in peace.

No. That wasn't it. With all the WWII movies everybody agreed you could easily be killed in a war. Most stayed blasted. Which made the gangsters selling the dope rich. Which enriched the corrupt politicians. Who started the phony war in the first place. Economics. Amazing, ain't it?

Of course I'm "against" war. Especially the war against innocent men, women and children being killed and maimed across the globe by Islamo-fascist. That's why I'm for eradicating them where ever they can be found.

The draft had a lot to do with it. Didn't want to go. Nobody protests like mommie's little crybaby that doesn't want to go and serve their country.
