be honest, and give them the proper names. But also make it clear that this is a private matter and not to be discussed outside of the home. When my daughter wanted to know, I told her. But that led to even more questions, LOL. Like how? Why? How did it get there? I answered every one and now she knows. She doesn't spout it everywhere becuase I made it clear that if she talked about it with other people, they might not want to talk to her. I said that because she likes to talk to people and wouldn't do anything to stop them.

Always make the answer age appopriate, but be truthful. Avoid things like the stork brings you ect... Most young children will be more than satisfied hearing That mommies and daddies love each other in a special way and when they do that a baby grows in mommies tummy... If they ask how the baby gets out, I'd tell them that when they are ready we go to the hospital and the doctors help the baby come out...
Most young kids really don't want or need a complex answer. most children age 7 and under will probably be satisfied with mommies and daddies loving each other in a special way... and really wont' care to hear more...

My parents always told me that they would tell me when I was older. At least that way they could have more time to think about it... plus a child's attention span is like three minutes so I would have forgotten about it. They were then able to put it off for that much longer. Eventually, I just looked up what I wanted to know in an encyclopedia. (and then a class in 6th grade helped clear a few things up)
good luck in whatever route you choose!

Depending on the age of the child I have found that showing them an episode of a baby story on tv can actually help explain without going into to much detail watch it with them just in case they have any questions. This show doesn't show any graphic details so it is safe for kids to watch but I would reccomed watching it with them.

It depends on the child's age and maturity. When my kids were 5, I told them from God, etc. When they were 10, I asked more to see what they really wanted to know. Did they hear something from other kids and wanted it confirmed, etc., or did they really want to get some details about sex, etc.
Asking the child what they really want and only giving them what they can handle, is the best way to go about this.

Depends on the age. I had to go through with this with my son to prepare for my daughter. I first went to my hospital's book store. Then, I went to the library for appropriate books in the children's section. I made it a outting for he & I.
Depending on your beliefs, I tell my little daughter that she was an angel before God sent her to me from Heaven. So when she asks why was she not in the pictures, she was still an angel.

Tell them the truth, but make it age appropriate. You can say babies come from mommies and daddies who love each other very much.

The truth. Besides, that way when they see a pregnant woman they won't ask an embarassing question...out loud.
