I'm normal size now. I'm 16. I don't want to grow up to be a fatass. My mom is stupid and won't let me cook ANYTHING besides things in the toaster oven. She won't let me go to the store to pick out healthier foods. All me and my brother eat are basically frozen french fries, popcorn chicken, mozzerella sticks, bagels, cinnamon toast, frozen waffles, and english muffins. We go to a fast food place about once a week. I don't drink soda. I'm sick of eating unhealthy. Yes, I am picky, but she won't cook anything different and I'm up for trying new things. Whenever I suggest this to her, all she does is cook this creme of broccolli chicken dish that taste like crap and she's there "You never tried this before!".....when I have. That is the only attempt she's made.........numberous times. I'm sick of eating so unhealthy. What can I do?

She is also a lousy cook. The only good food I get is when my dad cooks it.

My mom was like that, too when I lived at home. She didn't really understand what "healthy" eating was and didn't want to change lifelong routines overnight. She also didn't want me cooking or shopping. After I got a job and made money of my own things started to change. I went out and bought my own snacks (apples, turkey, wheat bread) and I made sure that I excersized everyday. After I moved out (I was 19) things drastically changed. I lost 40 lbs and have been healthy (in food and weight) ever since. Don't worry that you are dooming yourself to a lifetime of obesity by eating unhealthy now. The damage isn't permanent unless you keep your mother's bad eating habits for the rest of your life.

It's hard to change your eating habits, Suggest to your mom that you would like to have some fresh food in the house. Say 5 dollars a weeks worth. That would buy carrots, apples, oranges, celery, cucoumbers. You could slice them up and have them for snacks. Give her a recipe book with mostly simple vegetable recipes in and offer to try one or two for her as a gift. All you needto find is one recipe that your mom likes, once the ice is broken she may let you try others. Go slow, maybe ask at school if they have usda's food pyramid or whatever they call it now and leave it at home to show your mom. Quiet persistance goes a lot further than a big scene. When you eat out ask for a garden salad 99cents instead of fries or a fancy salad instead of a combo. Be a quiet example.

this is unusual for a mother in my opinion. I think you should go ahead and ask your dad to show your mother a few things and show her that healthy food doesn't have to be so hard or a work. I also feel that you should say mom I want to eat healthier it is my body and my choice. Get your brother to side with you if you can ok. It cannot hurt to try then just sit there and complain about it.
Or even start cooking for yourself when you get the kitchen to yourself or even volunteer to cook a night or two in your parents stead cook well and show that healthier is best, get the cookbook out from the local library or if your mom has one show her. This is my advice to you!
GOOD LUCK! Many cherokee blessings to you and your family!

Yikes, just reading this put 10 pounds on me. I don't understand what your mother is not getting here, show me the fruit & veggies. OK, you're 16 now so try making a stand without being aggressive and obnoxious about it. Maybe Dad can help you out with this one too, don't know but it's worth a try isn't it? If you don't like your diet the way it is (and I don't blame you for that) do you have an alternate to offer? No sense making the pitch for change if you don't have something to bring to the table (no pun intended). So write out a list of what you feel is an acceptable alternative and keep in mind if it's too labour intensive it's not going to be accepted. Baby steps, right? Present you case to Mum, with help of Dad hopefully, and hopefully she sees the logic in your proposal.

If she really will not offer you an option and you have no choice just be very cautious of you portions, it very easy to over eat especially when it comes to junk food.
There options for healthy food that is quick and easy to make though if she is feeling crunched for time.
Rice and vegetables are easy to cook, salad is easy to make , bagels are good if you don't over do it on them, English muffins too, you can look for lower carb bread and bagels too.
always be sure to be active so you can burn off the calories you take in.
Maybe you can be the example for a healthy lifestyle for everyone else too.
Good luck to you.....

Talk to your mom and tell her that you want to be healthier and you want the whole family to be healthier too. That you would like to try to cook and maybe she could be with you in the kitchen to guide you.
Also you don't need a stove to make most salads and if you start to explore different combinations there are hundreds. Cook a meal for your mom one night and maybe she will change her mind.
Next time you guys go out to eat tell her that you don't want to eat fast food. Maybe the fast food night could turn into a night when you, and maybe your brother too, cook for the family.

get to liking veggies and salads and boneless skinless chicken.
Try making chicken Salsa soup. It's really easy and tasty.
2 or 3 boneless chicken breasts cut up
1 can corn
1 jar salsa
just toss all the ingredients in a pot w/ water and simmer until the hot or water is boiled down a bit. You can put different things in this it just depends on what you like.

Honey---you need to learn how to cook NOW--to save your whole family from unhealthiness!
Who pays for/buys groceries? Get involved THERE for starters.
Go along, or take over!
Buy lots of boneless/skinless chicken breasts--they are healthy & versatile!
Make them marinated in the oven for sandwiches, boil, dice & add taco mix for chicken tacos, enchiladas or burritos.
Cube and marinate, then thread on skewers with pepper & onion pieces, tomatoes and mushrooms....baste in lo-fat Italian dressing. Best on the grill, but good in the oven.
Eat a lot of healthy side dishes like broccoli/cauliflower blends with lemon juice..
If you continue to eat the crap you do, you will get fat and unhealthy. Take steps to control your foods, since nobody else will!

initially, attempt to offer up cursing. no individual will take you heavily in case you curse like that for all time (in spite of asterisks). Secondly, you are able to heavily practice your self oatmeal interior the morning, or something alongside those lines (or fruit, or a smoothie). in case your Dad does the grocery procuring, pass with him and stick some greens interior the cart as you pass down the isle. also, you are able to volunteer to cook dinner some circumstances a week (meaning once you keep for nutrition you are able to positioned fish, fruit, etc., interior the cart and say i'm cooking presently and it really is my determination). sturdy success.
