Try museums, there are some AWESOME ones around.. both smaller and major museums.. Also, try Griffith Park, or Griffith Observatory. Descanso Gardens is peaceful and pretty.. Brand Park and the Dr.'s House there is really cute, and free I believe. Picnics and such are a good idea in the parks. Malls can also be fun.. I like the Glendale Galleria.. but of course, you'll be tempted to buy stuff too. :o) Old Town Pasadena is cool also, as well as the whole Burbank studios thing.. you can see a show in LA, a taping of something like Dr. Phil, Leno, Tyra Banks I think, and that other late night show.. a LOT of them actually. That's pretty fun, and free. I think you can take a studio tour also. Don't rule out theme parks, either.. sometimes universal studios or six flags has coupons and good deals you'll find in random places, like on Coke cans or Ralphs receipts, or even on Ebay. Good luck and have fun!

Look for art openings - they're free and usually serve complimentary wine.

Check out MOCA museum- Thursdays after 5 it's free.
The Getty museum is free to get in, and if you take the bus, you can avoid the $8 parking fee.

In Pasadena, the Academy 6 (Regency Academy Theatres) is cheap and plays double-features - two movies for $6.
