I've been told that the staterooms on the Diamond Princess are non smoking and smoking. Is this true, if so do the rooms smell badly of smoke? Is the entire boat going to smell of smoke?

I have never been on Diamond Princess Cruise but have been on several other cruises and this is a rather new ship--not even 3 yrs old. Most ships that were launched after mid/late-90s don't allow smoking in the cabins at all. I'm not sure where you found that you could smoke in some of them--and I'd ask before I lit up if you are a smoker. But even smoking rooms wouldn't have that strong a smell so quickly. Mostly, you are allowed to smoke outside the ship on one certain deck (not even most of the decks allow smoking). And smoking is usually allowed in half the lounges. That is how it is on other Princess cruises.

Overall, I've never been on a newer ship that smelled of smoke at all! Smoking is allowed in designated areas up near the smokestack (which is going to smell that way anyway). Thats usually the top deck so that the smoke doesnt billow towards anyone, just out to open sea. So I wouldn't worry at all.
