A Mormon is a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, or LDS church. They are headquarted here in Utah. They have temples all over the world. Some LDS church members are offended by being called Mormons, others embrace it.

Mormons are a cult focused especially in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho, USA. While they profess otherwise, their fundamental claim to religious reality was through a man named Joseph Smith who was killed in Missouri just before the wagons rolled for Utah. Let Brigham Young step forward...his statue stands before the Temple in Salt Lake City - with his back to the church and his hand open toward the bank across the street. Hmmmm. My great great grandfather was in the raiding party that killed Joseph Smith and I'm proud that he was. A contemporary of his, Martin Rice, wrote a book titled "A Three Days Ride Through Jackson County". There are several accounts in it wherein Mormon groups would intentionally make such Pains in the A** of themselves that landowners would just move onward to alleviate the problem. This tactic is still practiced by other Mormons today! I know the whereeabouts of two copies of that book. One rests in the battlefield museum in Lone Jack, Jackson Cty, Missouri and the other is among my family heirlooms. These are a few of the reasons that I detest the Mormon Church - not it's members - just the church. What a hugely hippocritical organization!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just visited the temple in Salt Lake City and askedd many questions about the LDS, as I am Catholic and wondered about thier beliefs. I had a great experience there, by the way.

Mormon was prophet, about 300 AD. His son, Moroni deciphered the Mormon writings and had them written on metal tablets. pursicuted christians fled to North America with the tablets and the last of them buried them in up-state New York.

Fast forward to the 1800's: Joeseph Smith has a vision from God on where to find this buried scripture. He finds it and translates it, through the power of God into the book of Mormon.

He preaches as a prophet and takes his followers west. He is killed, pursicuted in Illinois. Brigham Young takes his place as a prophet and leads the followers to SLC, building the temple.

They have a prophet now, about 92 years old.

That's how I interperated it.

A Mormon is another name for the people of the Church of the Latter Day Saints... Some guy who said he had a vision - (lost the stone tablet, though) - the main one being that men were to have as many wives as they wanted.
As good a reason as any to start a religion, I guess.

Mormons oh blessed Mormons! They're a confused little bunch. I watch them ride by on their mountain bikes not going door to door but where ever the spirit leads them. They've come to my door a few times. The last time they came I told them they worked for the Devil. That made them sad little Mormons. But they still asked me to pray with them and I did and I prayed to God that he would lead them out my door and onto the path realizing that they are coo coo for believing that Joseph Smith was a Prophet and anyone who believes that Book of Mormon is pretty gosh darn gullible. So off they went never to knock on my door again. Yes I've read the Book of Mormon and it made me smile and laugh at how ridiculous the stories were. I read it from front to back and said to myself. What a bunch of MORONS!

a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They prefer that the entire name be used to refer to them, or the shortened “Latter Day Saint,” or the nickname Mormon. In my opinion, Mormons are a mysterious group of people, and misconceptions regarding their beliefs abound. It is a relatively new church, although members believe that the church is in actuality, the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

I have a great great grandfather who was one of the "pillars" of the church, pioneers and member of the "sick company", a Sergeant Major alongside a Col Brown

JHG -

I found out he was part of the "Canadian" group that went north at one point after settling and populated Canada in Roundup, CA

but like christians, they follow the teachings of a person, this one was Joseph Smith

Paul of the new testament also claimed extra knowledge and revelation that others did not get and invented christianity

jesus advocated liberal and social changes, but was not a christian but a pharisee who, like other messiahs, failed in ridding the Jews of the Roman oppression
