The Bible clearly defines Baptism as being buried(immersed) in water as a symbolism of Christ's burial.
Baptism is for remission of sins.Acts 2:38
Baptism is necessary Acts 22:16; Mark 16:15,16; Galatians 3:26,27; 1 Peter 3:21;
Baptism is being immersed (not sprinkling) Romans 6:1,2,3,4;
Colossians 2:12; Acts 8:35,36,37,38,39
First you must
Hear Romans 10:17
Believe Mark 16:15,16; Hebrews 11:6
Repent Luke 13:3,5; Acts 17:30
Confess 1 Timothy 6:12; Romans 10:9,10; Acts 8:35-39
and then be baptized.
and the LORD adds you to the (one) Church Acts 2:47
Ephesians 4:4,5,6 There is one body and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling,
One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism,
One God, and Father of all, Who is above All, and through All and in you all.

Baptism is a symbol, just like circumcision was. It's an outward symbol to what should have taken place in the heart. The old man is washed away and you arise as a new creation.

Good Question!

But which one, Spirt or Water?

SPIRIT, first and only, ACCORDING TO THE WORD! And in response to the Promise of Jesus in John 7:38-39!

1. (Ephesians 4:5) one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

2. (1Corinthians 12:13) For also by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free, even all were made to drink into one Spirit.

WATER...... As in Identification with the Death, Burial and the Resruction of Christ!

1. (Romans 6:3-4) Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?
(Rom 6:4) Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.

2. (Colossians 2:11-to-14) in whom also you are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ,
(Col 2:12) buried with Him in baptism, in whom also you were raised through the faith of the working of God, raising Him from the dead.
(Col 2:13) And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,
(Col 2:14) blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.

Hope that helps, if not please feel free to write me!

Thanks, RR
