emm. Islams prophet Muhammed(pbuh) did not punish anyone for leaving Islam(or at least did not punish them by death). in Quran it says that those who leave Islam will be punished by Allah(god).

As a matter of fact apostates have been executed many times in the Islamic history, even during the ruling of the first Calif, Abu-Bakr, a ware was waged against the tribes who abandoned Islam and refused to pay "Zakat" (money collected for the poor). However, I would not dwell on that war as there were special circumstances that lead the Calif to wage such a war.

Now back to the question, my answer is NO. There is no such a penalty mentioned in the Qour'an, or even has been entertained by the Prophet of Islam himself.

May the peace, blessings and Mercy of God be upon you

May God increase our knowledge and guide us to the straight path

Ok, firstly about no compulsion

No Compulsion in Religion

God said,

(There is no compulsion in religion), meaning, "Do not force anyone to become Muslim, for Islam is plain and clear, and its proofs and evidence are plain and clear. Therefore, there is no need to force anyone to embrace Islam. Rather, whoever God directs to Islam, opens his heart for it and enlightens his mind, will embrace Islam with certainty. Whoever God blinds his heart and seals his hearing and sight, then he will not benefit from being forced to embrace Islam.''

About Apostasy,

This depends where you are, in a Non-Muslim state you cannot apply Sharia Law. In an Islamic state there would be a trial, and the person if found guilty of apostasy, could be sentenced to death. But this can only be done by the Religious Leader and who ever he appoints. Not any person can just start killing other people that is murder and a crime.

The Proof is,

Volume 9, Book 83, Number 17:

Narrated 'Abdullah:

God's Apostle said, "The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshipped but God and that I am His Apostle, cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims."

Peace Be With You

Yes. The quaran doesn't compulse someone to Islam, but if one doesn't believe then person is an unbeliever, worthy of hell. If one falls from faith, even family members will kill you or turn you in. You get 3 chances to repent.

In the Iraqi constitution freedom to believe how one wants cannot have the death penalty anymore. Islam has killed more Christians than I think any other religion.

this proves that Islam is a bunch of bologna. and you are compelled into religion being that god placed in us a need for him.
now, the bible makes a lot more sense. it is written "for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of god is eternal life" this makes perfect sense because god gives eternal life whereas the devil only offers sin which LEADS to death. even though everyone sins, if you give your problems to god you can be sinless so you won't die(per say). no confusion, no contradiction

Yeah.

EDIT: I love Muslims like Hado and Stick and Submits. "Perfect logic of Islam" indeed! They don't avoid the question, they don't beat around the bush, they just hit you in the face with the ugly truth, and in doing so, they do more damage to their religion than any kaffir could. I think one of them should get the best answer.

Leviathan, I am an Arab. Please don't refer to my race with crude, vulgar vocabulary like that. It makes people look like primitive rednecks.
