Been on it for about 6 years. Works great. If you find you are sleeping in too long or feel a sleep "hangover" (no pain, just alot of yawning etc), let your doctor know so they can adjust the dosage. Sleep well.

I was given that to help with depression/insomnia about two years ago. Trazadone is absolutely great for helping with insomnia! I would be wide awake and take one pill. Within five minutes, i would be out cold for 8 to 10 hours flat.
Side effects are at the short end a little annoying to on high end down right dangerous. The annoying part is that from what I am told (and experienced) you will have the wierded dreams in the world while taking this medication. I had dreams of different body extremeties rotting and falling off! It will give you a wild ride. On the dangerous side it all depends on one factor. Do you drink. I was advised before starting the medication by my physicians to not drink alcohol AT ALL while on it. The possibility of your heart stoping while you are asleep if mixed with alcohol is multiplied to insane amounts. Not sure exactly how accurate that was, but Im not willing to take the chance.
Now if your taking this as a medication for insomnia it is great. It will knock you out faster than you can say "hey i think im getting tired." For medication for depression (the origional reason the medication was made), it is not such a good idea. Because of the effect of making you so tired, it was frowned upon for depression medication. The idea of trying to help with depression is to want you to get up and be active. Not sleep all day long. For depression there are many different and better medications. They started me off on Prozac which didnt help because it made me VERY aggressive (not a normal side effect but possible). Zolaf is another possibility that does have a known side effect of aggressive behavior. What they finally gave me that helped greatly was Paxyl. It has been almost two years now since I was put on it and it worked wonders. No major side effects as well as it doesnt make you like a zombie like prozac does. Hope this helps out and good luck in everything.

I presently take 75mg of Trazodone every night and have taken as much as 300mg. I find that I sleep pretty good and have under no circumstances suffered any extreme aspect results. Trazadone is an antidepressant, but is certainly used in treating insomnia. You're going to to find that every antidepressant has a suite of part effects, together with insomnia. However these side effects should not principal and normally go away withing just a few days to per week. From what you're experiencing, you can also need to broaden the dose. There can also be some underlying issues that are contributing to your insomnia that can not be treated with Trazadone by myself. For me, insomnia is a biproduct of exact temper issues i've. If I left the temper problems untreated, Trazadone would do little for my insomnia. Discuss these considerations with your Dr. And he/she may be competent to either, broaden the dosage or switch you to a reliable alternative.

No I have not but I do know that after being on some meds you can get addicted to them and it will make your sleeping problems worse. Also you can get immune to them and they dont work anymore and the meds will have to be changed to something else.Side-effects should not be taken lightly.Sometimes life style changes are better at dealing with insomnia/depression.When you are depressed you are not as active so it is harder to sleep. You need to exercise daily.Brisk walking does very well.No caffeine what so ever. Will only keep you up at night.Eat balanced meals. Also do something special for yourself everyday.Talk to your doctor about these things.None of it will hurt you and most of it will help.If not then tell your doctor you may have to take meds.

i took Trazodone for many years, originally for insomnia. It gradually stopped working...or maybe my depression got worse. Took Trazodone in combination with Paxil, then Prozac, and then something else. Anyway, like someone else mentioned the worst/most interesting side effect I had were the weird dreams. Very vivid, but not necessarily scary. I no longer take it. Now take Seroquel/Effexor/Wellbrutin

also known as Desyrel- have seen it used alot with my patients, in the past 20 years. Only side effect I have noticed is a very few that have not had the desired effect of sleeping, and were more restless than before they started this med.
If you look up the side effects of Tylenol, you would probably be leery to even take that, all you can do is try it and see if it works for you.
