impossible, so we came from nothing, no impossible.

The above attempts to condense the science verses religion debate, to my mind it's a draw, neither side has the faintest clue how it all started, and what was there before the big bang. Don't be fooled, they don't know, if they did we would'nt need philosophers. The question is, "Why do scientists in the media and religious types in the media ever admit that they do not know
the answer to the question how did it start?". My opinion is that neither group is right, they just circle the question in opposite directions and clash every now and again when their paths cross!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word came to dwell among us. He has always been. He shaped man from the dust of the ground, and breathed life into him. This world and universee is to big to say that man made it, and evolved from a monkey into a human. In that case since flowers are still growing from the seed planted, why are humans are not still evolving from monkeys? Do you think that little man could produce such a vast univers? Open you mind. Soon that scientist will die, and turn back to dust. If man and scientist are the answer, there would be no more deaths, wars would not be, hatred, etc.. Maybe man could have parted the red sea.
Man started every evil thing going on in this world today. God is just waiting for the time to do what He has planned before the beginning of man on this earth. He does not force mankind to do what is right, He gave us choices and a manual for a guide to live by.

Well no, but mostly because saying 'god did it' doesnt actually explain anything - it doesnt increase the sum total of human knowledge.

Do you think you could be an organic chemist and have to do a thesis on the origins of replicating molecules and get away with saying 'god made them do it' in your work? You think you'd graduate?

Scientists are the first to admit they don't know everything but they go about acquiring new information in a structured, logical, rational way which is why science always encompasses more information - does religion do that? No, of course not. Don't pretend two rival ideas are both equally valid just because there are two of them.

There have been experiments in the lab and organic molecules are quite happy to form amino acids and replicate quite happily - I guess God didnt do much huh? I wonder why he bothers to exist at all? Oh wait... Do you see? What is the point in a God of the gaps if the gaps are always vanishing.

You are confusing evolution with biogenesis. A different subject. True, the answer is not know. That is what science is all about - trying to find an answer.

Unless, of course, you have a third option that involves neither gods or science?

Actually, evolutionary science makes no claim positive or negative about any god(s).

Now, the problem here is the question of "start of the universe" is not coherent. The concept of "beginning" (causality) requires space and time to exist to be meaningful. But "before" the universe there was no space/time.

Science doesn't know, and will admit it (but is always looking for the answer). Religion doesn't know, won't admit it, and won't let anyone ask questions. That's the difference.

Skeletal remains of monkey and man are what I think brought about the question of evolution. God knows why they cannot explain why my coccyx is shorther than a monkey's.
