I am also a Seventh Day Adventist..and I know I have disappointed God many times with deliberately treating the Sabbath like another day. It is really a conscience issue between you and God....talk to Him about it....He loves you so much and He knows the dilemma you are facing. I know that, for myself..I need to straighten up in the area of spending the Sabbath with Him....I think the problem lies with us on how much do we put Him first...do we think of other things as more important than what He asks of us...can we live without what we would like to do on the Friday night..could we turn it around and think of it as something we are giving up for God..because that is how much we love Him..could it be that we could use this as a witnessing point to others..that they may see that you love God so much you are willing to sacrifice self and be not like others in doing their own pleasure? I honestly DO know the dilemma...but I also know that if we do sin, we must be so careful that it is not deliberate sin..but I know that God does forgive..we must never make a habit of disobedience. May God Bless you abundantly in this.

I know your dilemma as a young person, wanting to enjoy a once in a lifetime school activity, not wanting to appear too holy perhaps, and out of the loop and on the other hand wanting to remain true to your religious, conviction. A challenging situation for a teenager to be in.
Solomon ( we are studying that book this quarter), was known to be the wisest man in the world, he had everything that his eyes desired, women, property, silver and gold etc, but he discovered that with all the worldly pleasures, all is vanity and vexation of spirit, if we live a life outside of Christ and his dictates. Remember our primary aim as Christians is to please God and help others be ready for his second coming. Going to the prom on Sabbath would that be pleasing God?
Remember too we have guardian angels assigned to us to protect us and there are places these angels can't go and therefore going to theseplaces we lose our protection. Can your guardian angel accompany you to the prom?
Well if your answer is yes then go.
Love "Chelle

Allow me to say that as a Seventh Day Adventist, I too of course observe the sabbath. It is the time when we devote time to to our saviour. The Lord said to remember it and keep it holy. If you are a devout christian then you should not go to the prom, because the bible says, the sabbath is from sunset to sunset.
"If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words." Isaiah 58:13.
Note: God's Sabbath day is holy. We must not trample it underfoot. We are not to do our own pleasure on it. We are not to pollute it (Ezekiel 20:13,21).
I pray that this response finds you well.

The First PRINCIPLE IS:
(Mark 2:27) And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, = = and not man for the sabbath:
The Sabbath was to be a Day of Rest from SIX DAYS OF LABOR!
JESUS healed on the Sabbath and they gave Him hell for it! Bigots as the religious were!
There is no one on EARTH that keeps the Sabbath! No one in your Church that does EITHER! How do I know that?
The day you call Saturday IS NOT REALLY SATURDAY or the Sabbath! Surf the Internet for LEAP YEAR! You will see that the days have been added and skipped!
In addition we here in America use the Roman Calendar and the Jews us the Jewish one, with different days!
BUT FOR CONVENIENCE SAKE, = = we all use the Roman Calendar!
YOU ARE TOTALLY FORGIVEN FOR GOING TO THE PROM, Signed Roger R.
[If anyone disagrees, have them Contact Me, and I will forgive them also!]
Thanks, RR
P.S. Its Not a SIN, for I cannot Forgive SIN!

you already know the answer will you serve your God or man???
8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.

Only go if you can glorify God and not self. Which you really can't do at a prom. But don't care what other people think or say, in the long run, God will say, "Well done good and faithful servant, you were faithful in the small things, come and enjoy eternal life." Amen.

This is one of the things the SDA do right. Just as you cannot get a "dispensation" from the Almighty to do wrong, so you cannot get a pass slip from "the Church". Do you truly believe that it would be "right" to go? Do you believe that it would be pleasing to the Almighty? (His name is YHVH by the way) If you think it would please Him, you should go, even if "big brother" tells you not to. If you think it would displease Him, you should stay away, even if you really want to go.

Basically it all boils down to this: Please yourself or please God. Remember that you could die tomorrow or in your sleep tonight - possibly even today. Always live your life like it is your last breath. Do what is rigth according to God's eyes. Remember that you will have to answer for every action in His presence one day very soon! There are things better than proms! (Heaven for example)

As a Xtian you're not required to follow the same laws of Shabbat as the Jews are (you're not supposed to, anyways), so you're allowed in G-d's eyes to go to the prom. It is your personal preference if you want to go or not. In my opinion, G-d would not want you to be unhappy. Not going to prom, you may regret it your entire life. And you can go to a social function on a Friday night, it is not against the Shabbat laws, even the Jewish ones.
