When people talk to me my mind wanders off even when i try really hard to pay attention, i have to try really hard & in my mind keep telling myself to pay attention cuz i could be listening & after theyre done i wont know wat theyre saying so i just have to play it off like i did. Im also & always have been disorganized & forgetful. My relatives think of me as the one thats just in her own world & dazed off. It annoys me but i cant help it & they think im lazy bc of my messiness & not wanting to do chores when i was younger but its not bc im lazy, cant be lazy..i work & go to school full time, i used to even have two jobs. When im in class i cant pay attention bc when i try to pay attention ill just totally not be listening. I go to a UC & i get good grades, but only bc im more of a visual learner but while reading i have to keep going back bc i could read a page & not be paying attention to what im reading? i also get distracted very easily.could this be what caused my depression?

Sounds like classic ADD to me. Do your feet move constantly? That can be a sign of ADD too. I have just about every symptom that you do.
Strattera, nonamphetamine for ADD, might help you. It has helped my sister. I take Cymbalta because of fibromyalgia or I would be on Strattera.
Here are a lot of symptoms I found:
Easily distracted; forgetful; daydreaming
Procrastination; inability to complete things
Disorganization; messiness; clutter
Difficulty with making decisions
Behavioral or verbal impulsiveness
Difficulty with expressing thoughts in speech or in writing
Significant periods of depression; low self-esteem
A sense of failure; not living up to one's potential
A sense of being different, unconventional
A sense of internal restlessness; constantly active
Difficulty with falling asleep or waking up alert
Very sensitive to being told to do something, teasing, criticism, rejection or anger
A sense that your mind is always active; thoughts jumping from one topic to the next
Easily bored; intense need for excitement
Difficulty with following rules
Very impatient; low frustration tolerance
Emotionally sensitive; easily upset, depressed, hurt or angered
Difficulty with personal or work relationships
Frequently late or rushed
Difficulty in estimating how much time something will take
Impulsive spending and money management problems
Personal or family history of substance abuse, depression or anxiety
Difficulty with reading comprehension or retention
Frequently changing jobs, interests or activities
Frequently losing or misplacing things
Perfectionistic tendencies
Strong need to control or have things your way

ADD can be easily diagnosed by your local school system.
There are 2 types of ADD (go ahead, flame me, but I know this for sure):
1. Genetic ADD. This is really a rare thing, but some people honestly are ADD due to their brain chemistry. In a similar manner, some people are "chemically depressed".
2. ADD due to psychological trauma and stress. This is what most people suffer from. This is like the depression that some people experience when their life stinks. The drugs simply cover it up, and make it manageable. I'm betting that in your case, when you find a way to be happy, the ADD will go away.
College is a huge deal, a source of massive stress. It could be that part of your being knows that you're not in the place where you need to be just now. You need to search your soul, and get some therapy, until you sort things out. Until you figure it out, the depression and ADD will keep bothering you.
Either that, or you can take the drugs and cover up the problem... your choice.

Ok well what it sounds like to me is that you might just be suffering from depression. When people are depressed they just tend to not care about what people are saying or what is going on. A.D.D. will show up in other ways. People with A.D.D. have trouble watching t.v. because they cant focus, they have trouble not starting cleaning but getting more then a few things done, they may even have trouble typing up the question that you typed into here. Some of the affects that you have are normal for depression ie.: being disorganized, not wanting to clean and on. Most people with A.D.D. have other symptoms and are usually hyper. If some one with-out A.D.D. takes the meds for it they will feel very very hyper when they don't usually because most A.D.D. meds are meth based ( like taking speed ). See a doctor and don't tell him what you think he should hear tell him what he asks, because the worst thing for one to do is diagnose him or her self.

you should talk your doc about feeling that you are ADD. he can set you up with mediation and/or classes that can teach how to cope. the most important are the copping skills because even with meds you still have some problems but not as strong. as for when you read have you tried taking notes?

You sound like me! School was the biggest waste of time I ever went through. I still managed to have a wonderful career in satellite communications. Hang in there. You will make it.
