I am a long time christian who attended church for a long time until I moved to a new city. Then, eventhough I wanted to go, these are the reasons I did not:
- when I tried a new church, people were not friendly. Maybe they said hello, but they did not try to get to know me.
- fear of being judged.
- fear of the unknown. not knowing what to expect when I got there.
- not being invited by christians already attending a church. who wants to trty something alone?
- laziness and not enough incentive to get up early on a Sunday and go if I did not know anyone or felt like I belonged.
5 months ago, I tried one more church, and I have been going ever since. And the big difference, and what I believe can help solve the problem, was 2 things. one, a friend invited me to come check out this church. And two, once I was there, everyone was so friendly and acted as if I were a friend they were just waiting to meet. While the pastor is great, and the music nice, the friendliness and welcome by the people is what keeps me coming back.

Sometimes you just don't have transportation and other times, there are other problems as well.
Until recently, I stayed home with my mother who was an invalid. She had a stroke that left her paralyzed on one side and she was quite bitter about God and church. However, there were days when I wanted to attend church and did.
There was one that told if I couldn't attend every Sunday to forget it - I couldn't become a member. They didn't seem to understand that not everyone has the freedom to attend the way we wish.
Then I found a church group that meets on the Sabbath. I still had a problem of attendance and I'll admit part was due to transportation but this group will come and pick me up.
With this group we have house meetings - where members meet in each others' homes for Bible study and singing. It's all very informal and we learn a lot. We're also very close and very supportive of each other.
If I wish I can have the group here, which I may do after things settle down - my mother died in December and I'm trying to get things settled here.
Does this help ?

Because God doesn't need middlemen.
Why don't you commune with nature and God why is in every piece of matter in the Universe? Christians are thieves who stole our holidays either directly or indirectly and have bastardized them. St Valentines day is the celebration of Pre-Spring when life is beginning to stir and nothing to do with romance. Easter is from the beginning of Spring that the Romans called the Feast of Esterus. In Northern latitudes the growing season came later and was celebrated at the end of April. Easter gobbles up both holidays as it moves with the cycles of the moon. Xmas was the Winter Solstice when the sun shines the least on a hemisphere of the earth. It was a rejoicing of the return of light that the thieving Christians converted to the birth of a Jewish boy who actually was born in the Summertime. Halloween was the celebration of the second and last harvest when merriment and relaxation began. Children conceived during this period would be born in warm weather but Christians thought that organized sex is bad. They therefore made it an evil day as they did with the beginning of Summer.
Enough of venting. You are probably thinking that I am satan, but there is no satan and no hell. That is what freaks out the three religions from the Middle East. Without a threat of punishment, they lies and deceptions are exposed to rational thought and fail.

Because churches do a lot of preaching and not practicing. Yes they may take collection but how much of that goes to philanthropy, and how much goes to pay the churches light bill, or the pastors mortgage and car payment, the entertainment, etc....
"Two hands working can do more than a thousand hands clasped in prayer"
Most people don't go to church to heal humanity's problems. They go for the social networking/support. And when someone like me walks into a church, the people circle like hungry vultures, trying to be the first to convert me in order to score points. Its ugly.

To be honest, a guy I went to grade school with burned down my church (St. Paul Lutheran, Fort Dodge, Iowa). They rebuilt my beautiful church with a building that looks more like a spaceship than a church, seriously! I pray @ home now & worship the Lord wherever I'm at & I know he knows I'm there for him. I don't have to put money in the collection plate either & instead donate to what I see as worthy causes.

For me personally, I don't care for all the singing and ceremony! It does absolutely nothing for me... nothing... a waste of time!
I want, need and appreciate a fully knowledgeable pastor, (or teacher), who can walk me through the Bible with the uncanny ability to convey its many truths in such a way as to keep my attention! I am serious about wanting to learn God's Truth, and the times that we are in demand it, (for me, anyway!).
And I especially hate, (yes, I know that's a strong word!), when a speaker says to turn around and introduce yourself to the person behind and next to you, etc. I'm not there to introduce myself to anyone... I couldn't care less! This is not a social event for me, it is, (or should be), a place of learning! Again, this is just my own personal opinion; but I understand that there are those who do enjoy all this extra "hooie-balooie" stuff, (and even look forward to it but... it's not for me!
Find me an educated, intelligent, articulate speaker/teacher, (or a solid study group), and I'm fulfilled! And... I've found that my feelings are shared by an unusually large number of others who feel the same way, (and don't attend church for the same reasons). We need solid teaching, now!... especially in these times! We, (rather, the churches), should be training and raising up leaders with solid Biblical core values. People like me need solid instruction on such topics as "love", "heaven", "hell", "Jesus", "Satan and demons", "curses and how to null them", "the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit", "true faith and how to attain it", etc..... We need proper, well-grounded teaching!
For a good teacher, I would spend "HOURS", (not only one hour), listening and soaking up all that I could!
It has been totally frustrating to me attempting to find a church with such qualifications and such a teacher! I've all but given up!
Hope this helps?

I wouldn't mind going to church, if it wasn't for the guy standing behind a pulpit telling me what I have to believe. Church should be a place where we can go and constructively discuss the Bible and God with others in an open forum, void of Church doctrines and dogmas.

If my town had a Unitarian Church I would sooo go to that. I do not like the division of the faiths ....they are pitted against eachother and seem to forget that church is for sharing in your joy of god, or whatever it is for you.
Alas, my town has no such church. We have a billion or so Morman churches, Catholic churches, Jehova churches, Babtist churches...so on and so on.
I am considerd lowly cause I do not attend a rigid, closed minded, opressive church.

I haven't found a church that I really like. The sermons aren't that moving or the church members aren't that warm. I just go to the chapel to pray.

Because I am a invalid and wheelchair bound. The Priest comes to me every Sunday which is today and gives me a copy of the Gospel and his sermon and then I receive Holy Communion
God Bless You
