Bass are by far more of a challenge to catch. Anyone with a rod and reel can catch catfish. Make a bread doughball and throw it out in the deepest part of the lake and you will catch a catfish. Bass are tougher to catch based on they're always changing and moving based on many different reasons. If you're just starting out and want to catch something cats would be more fun for you. But as you grow into a better angler, bass are way more fun when you can figure them out and just burn them down. Good luck and remember to take a kid fishing.

Bass are the best. Large mouth are good to catch and release and use rubber worms riged weedless style. Striped bass have made a great comeback and use rubber storm lures or sometimes eels or bunker. Lures are great for ease of use and work well. Try saltwater assigin lures. Lures for strippers are jig headed with a fish look appearence. Striped bass taste good. Bass fight the best!!!

My favorite - Carp, especially on the fly rod. They are incredibly spooky, so you have to sneak up on them and your casts have to be perfect.. They are surprisingly picky about what they eat, and suck food in and spit it back out so quickly that you have to be on your game to get the hook set. And when you get the hook set, wow! They can run seemingly forever and will burn up a poorly set drag. They'll run long and hard, then bulldog all the way in, then take off again. Absolute top notch.

Of the two that you mentioned, I prefer fishing for bass only because I like a more active fishing style. If I'm fishing to eat though, its catties all the way.

I'd have to say sharks because they have a chance of catching you as well as you catching them. You better watch yourself or you're going to get hurt!!!! Now that's sporting!!But between bass and cats I'll take bass because they take more skill to fish for.

If your asking in regards to normal shore fishing or anything like that I would say my favorite is redfish (red drum) because they put up one hell of a fight and are very tasteful. However my absolute favorite fish to catch is a Blue Marlin. Only done it once in my life, but to be able to be fighting not sure exaclty what it is you've got on (be it either a baracuda, wahoo or yellow fin tuna), and then out of no where a blue marlin apears on the horizon jumping out of the water fighting to get free. It is the most amazing fishing experience in the world. To be able to attempt to campture if only for a second one of natures true beauties. It is something I will never forget and cherrish for the rest of my life.

Catfish have always given me problems getting the hook out, I like to catch bass better. But sunfish and other panfish are fun too. Its the big fish that scare me - the northern and muskey.

Although bass are more intelligent, I like to catch cats better because they are so sneaky. ;) But for a real fun fight, fish for carp, they are both.

Bonito and small mouth bass and Carp because Catfish don't spit out the hook and you can get injured when you are releasing them ie getting poked by thier stupid barbels
