I just got these two 10 inch subs in a box. they are alpine type r. they have 1500 watt peak power and 500 watts rms at 4 ohms. the technical name for them is SWR-1042D. what kind of amp should i buy?

The Alpine MRP650 it puts out 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms with 1% THD. That is the smallest I would go with. You could also go with the M1005 it puts out 1000 watts rms at 2 ohms but no more. Go to Sonicelectronix.com or Onlinecarstereo.com

the 10's you have seem to be dual 4 ohm subs. if that is the case, you could wire the coils in parallel and run them at 2 ohms on most 2-channel amps. i would look for something around 2x400w rms @ 2 ohms to run them efficiently. i would not put them on anything less than 2x200w rms; that would just be a waste of good subs.
