How do I stay motivated to do well in school?
When I was younger (in grade school and middle school) I use to be so motivated to work hard. I would do my homework as soon as I got home and would study for every test and quiz. I got straight a's. Now, I'm in high school and in the highest levels except for math. Honors geometry is the hardest and I'm in geometry. I cannot focus or concentrate on my schoolwork. I cant pay attention in class because I'm so distracted by other things such a boy problems all the time. I've started copying homework from friends and I never study anymore for tests. But grades are still important to me. i want to do well and get into a good college, and have a good future. But I just cant seem to work hard. I am getting a c in math this marking period and 1 or 2 b's and all the rest are a's. Last week I had midterms and i didnt study for any of them and I feel that I did poorly on all of them . Even on the english one which happens to be my best subject.

Last year I even got a trophy for doing so well in English. I used to always participate in class and try my hardets. Now, I just daydream and dont pay attention. I dont participate anymore. I always procrastinate and I feel lazy all the time. Please give me tips to stay motivated. Now, I spend all my time on im or myspace. I hate what I've become. I went from overachiever to slacker. I would like to get into Duke or Dartmouth. I want to get straight a's this marking period. My parents are going to kill me when I get my report card. They expect me to get straight a's but they never help me with my schoolwork or help me study.
I feel so dissapointed in myself when I recieve a poor grade but still I dont try harder for the next test. Its become a habit of mine to wait till the day before the test to study and I ususally only fstudy for a little bit too. I just go dtstracted easily now.I'm in 9th grade. Its very important to get into a good college.

From your question, it seems to me that a major problem is that other things in your life are distracting you. In grade and middle school, you're number 1 priority was school. Now it's not. This is completely normal for your age. What you have to remember is how to balance these new priorities in your life. Are you depressed? Sometimes this can really inhibit your motivation. I would suggest you talk to a counselor at school and ask for some pointers on how to balance your time. You obviously still care for school, do something now before your grades are seriously affected!! Good luck!!

hey buddy...i'm in the same situation as you but now im in college. i was a great student in elementary and high school. i did my best and studied really hard as well. just like you, i had math troubles but in precalculus. However, i got help. DEFINATELY ask your teacher for help after school. never resort to copying because its not worth it. you wont learn anything. im not saying i've never copied but dont do it too often. lol try doing the work and then start asking your friends for help and answers. DO NOT be shy about asking questions in class because it will clear up many things.when tests are soon to come, ask you teacher for example problems that you can work through together. i also suggest you go somewhere quiet when you feel distracted with problems. go to the library! even if you don't feel like working, take a break, clear your mind, and then get to work. think of what you can achieve and soon you will be your best. you can definately get good grades

and you're in HIgh school! that's awesome because HS can be one of the best times of you life. don't ruin your grades by being distracted.

Wow! that sounds exactly like me. I'm in 8th but i have no motivation. i just signed up for HS and im in all honors. Take a break or talk to our parents. What you need might just be a weekend away. Set goals for yourself every week. If you have midterms that week. Tell yourself to study 15 minutes a day. Get your parents invovled they really can motivate you. Or pick a few colleges you want to go to and put them on your bedroom walls or planner. Every time you skip doing homework, or don't feel like studying look at them. You want to go there. You want to achieve their standards. Hope this helps!

Eliminate the thing that's causing your problem...boys. I'm assuming that you have a boyfriend. Easier said than done of course, but you might thank yourself in the long run. Focus more on your school work than on boys. With dating comes a lot of drama especially in high school! You have to do some soul searching and ask yourself "what's more important" right now. While there is nothing wrong with going out with boys from time to time, just don't tie yourself down with one right now! There will be plenty of time for that. Focus on your future. Best wishes.
