Depending on the number of people in the wedding party and invited to the ceremony and/or reception will depend on what you have to spend. Nowadays the average wedding is around $20,000; however, my fiance and I have budgeted $10,000 and I'm going to make it work!! 50 guests invited and total wedding party (including bride & groom) is 10...sooooo if you set a budget you can make it work, just have to be willing to do your research.

It all depends how you define a "normal wedding." It varies depending on your tastes, where you live, and how much work you're willing to do. A *very* "budget wedding" seems to be between $2000-$4500. I can tell you from experience that the $2000 end will involve a lot of work and getting a lot of things for free. (the photographer, the cake, the reception hall.... )
Things to consider:
Will you be paying a wedding planner? Buying a wedding organizer?
You need a place to have the wedding. This could be a local park, a church or whatever. There may be rental fees! (even for parks)
Officiant. How much do they charge? (around $500 here)
Bride's dress and veil: Probably around $600 for the dress and $200 for the veil for a low average.
Remember you'll be paying for the garter and toss-away bouquet, as well as petal baskets, ringbearer pillows and the like.
Dresses and tuxes. Are you paying for the bridesmaid dresses and tux rentals for groomsmen? Flower girls and ringbearers need attired, too.
Ceremony musicians: Organist, orchestra, singers, or CDs?
Photographer: Most charge $1500+ for a wedding.
Videographer, if you use one? I have no idea how much they charge.
Car: Renting a limo? For how long?
Flowers: Bouquets, decorations, altar sprays, corsages for mothers and grandmothers, flower petals for flower girls, arrangements for gift tables, any reception arrangements. You will spend at least $300 here and probably a lot more. Silk is your friend for cost purposes.
Bubbles/Birdseed: Depends on the number of people you invite.
Programs: Depends on the number.
Invitations/RSVP cards
Hotel rooms: Will you be providing stay for out of town family or party members?
Gifts for all party members
Reception:
DJ/musician
Food
Drink
Toast
Table service (if not catered)
Cake
Punch
Punch Bowl, ladle, cake server, knife
Albums or Guestbooks to sign
Disposable cameras, if you want them.
Reception hall decorations

if you are having a church wedding, then the only cost for that should be the fee if any and decorations which can be up to 500 dollars. The reception si where you spend because you are charged per plate. the prices i have seen are like lowest being $12 and up on that. My reception was 13.95 per plate times 300 people so do the math. But this was catered so of course if you prepare your own food then it may be cheaper. Some reception halls run from 150 to thousands of dollars. so it really just depends on what you want but be careful because the price does rise easy. then you have your transportation to and from the wedding for bride and bridesmaids and then groom and groomsmen. also gifts for wedding party. if you are going to have a wedding coordinator that is another fee that could be up to thousands. then a dj or band. it is alot so good luck.

ok well im a cypriot and i live in the uk, our weddings like many other cultures tend to be a little big and over the top. i think in the end the wedding cost near the £30,000 mark, which is relatively cheap compared to some. this is because you tend to have about 600 guests. all the cypriot community and work friends etc. you pay for the venue, a sit down 4 course meal, allll the alcohol which usually consists of wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks.the entertainment and all the other things like flowers, bridesmaid dresses etc etc. weddings are very expensive and if i had the chance again i would have much rather taken a few choice friends and family abroad somewhere and just tied the knot that way, i thinks its a huge waste of money but i know our parents wanted to do this for us. shop around for things like venue, especially florists they can cost so much money. you could hire your partners suit. actually most things are available to hire now. you could have a buffett for the after party which will be cheaper than a meal. can u give us a few more details about yourself. then maybe we can offer some more help. it also depends where u live. like are u in the uk. wedding dresses in most bridal shops cost around £500 upwards. thats not including tiaras shoes veils. like i said give us some more info. bottom line is weddings can be expensive.

For my wedding we spent $15,000. We did not go way out but we had a nice wedding. We had about 350 people.
1800 for decorator, who put up and took down every decoration.
2000 for the photographer 600 was for our prints.
600 for a DJ service
1000 for my attire
350 for alterations
700 for flowers
100 for the church
3000 for the food - no open bar
100 for the reception hall
600 for invitations and extras(bubbles, favors, napkins)
2000 for all three ring (engagment, wedding band and his wedding band)
150 for the grooms attire
I know that there is more stuff but I can't remember what else there was. I liked using www.ezweddingplanner.com to help organize my wedding. They have lists and ideas and what not.
I know about four or five people that have spent about that much on there weddings. My sister is getting married in July and she is spending about $25,000.
I depends on what you want. What you can afford.

What do you mean by "normal?" It depends on where you have it, the number of guests, the food you serve, the cost of the dress. First come up with a budget, then see what you can get for that budget. Formal weddings average about $20,000 (or more) these days.

We're having a small wedding this summer (about 30 people) in Vermont, and we're probably going to spend 2,000-3,000 total. There's ways to make things cheaper...such I got my wedding dress on sale for $250, we'll make own center pieces, we found some inns that will do the decoration for us, and we're serving a light lunch instead of a 3 or 4 course meal. But we're cutting out some people due to our budget, but I bet people could have a pretty nice wedding for $5,000.

We spent about $5,000.00 maybe less on our wedding. We did everything ourselves. We even saved enough to get a DJ. Me and my bridesmaids made all of the centerpeices and floral arrangements. i also bought my dress at a thrift store for $80.00! It can be done really cheap but still look like you spent a fortune!

I'm not sure what normal is but for a nice (nothing too fancy) you will have to count $100/ person. But that also depends where you live. 100 dollars per person includes, flowers arrangement, catering, open bar, rental for tent/ table cloth/ napkins etc.

I suggest visiting online website such as
http://www.weddinglenox.com ,weddingvendors.com ,onewed.com
Unlike most yellow pages, they have detailed comparison for vendors (DJ,videographer, florist, and photographer) you can choose.
One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that are too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.
I like weddinglenox as they have an easy to use layout to show you pictures, pricing and location in one page, plus you can send out your inquiry for matching vendor to contact you. That saves me lots of time to locate the best vendors with the right price.
