It could be an ingrown hair. Is it red? If it is an ingrown hair it may develop into a boil. Just keep the area clean .

It sound like to me it may of been a boil or just a cyst. The good news is it sound like it drained so make sure you keep that area cleaned to prevent further growth or infection. If its getting smaller and smaller it means its going away. But if it comes back DO NOT attempt to bust it because it will come back and it will hurt and bust repeatedly and you will just have to continue to drain it so you can either buy some boil cream or go to your doctor or local emergency department. If it continue to bother you and become to painful its best you follow up with your doctor.

It could be an ingrown hair, even if you don't shave. Without knowing your history and where exactly it is located, it is hard to say. I don't know how long it has been there, but If it doesn't soften up or begin to go away in at most a week, definately see the doctor.

It could be a boil... or a swollen lymph node. The infection would indeed cause swollen lymph nodes in the area -- that's what they do (stop infections).
