I want A real good reason... like because my pet pit bull killed my baby or my mom. Not somthing like i saw on the news..blaa blahh blahhh..and for the record anyyyyyy dog will attack!.. pitbulls are more likely to hurt people when they do because they are mostly muscle ..and when used as only guard dogs which a lot of people buy them for with minimum to no human contact besides abuse "to make it mean" just like any other breed that was raised like that most likley will be agresseve tward other humans. just as a human would.... a lot of people buy these dogs and treat them as a gun or sum other protection. and not as pets its the way they are raised. the poeple not the breed and yes sum probably do turn on their owners but they are not the only breed . i think they get all the crap bc when a pitbull or even larger dose bites its a more serious bite than a toy poodle or chiwawa would cause. so its worth reporting. And all you in the hate pibulls club read up on the breed before you post

Why I hate pit bulls:
1. Because they are dogs and, like all dogs, they are annoying and stupid.
2. Because they are dogs and I'm allergic to dogs.
3. Because they are ugly as sin.
4. Because they are mean. My brother-in-law has 2 of them. I hate 'em; Rotten personalities...
5. Because I know the fact that I hate pit bulls bothers you.
6. Because insecure males buy them to enhance their image when, in fact, it just makes them look laughable.

Actually, pitbulls in tests have been shown to be more stable (ie, less likely to bite) than most other breeds. The fear is what happens when they do bite.

Any dog can be brought to bite. A foster pitbull of mine latched onto the neck of a newfy/lab mix. The pitbull didn't even puncture the other dog, the other dog severely injured several people. Nonetheless, I recommended euthanisation for the pittie.

Most people operate out of profound ignorance about dogs. Because we've all had dogs all our lives, we assume we know a lot about behavior. I've had an appendix all my life but I'll still call a doctor if it becomes inflamed.

People don't want to be informed, it is too much work. They watch some bozo on tv and believe everything the media tells them, even though a good portion of the Pitbull attacks turn out to be Labrador, or mixed breed, or something else attacks.

Pits were culled for showing any aggression to humans when in a state of arousal. Any idiot can make a dog vicious by mishandling. People just need to have a boogeyman to make their lives seem more in control. Pitbulls are one of the current boogeymen.

We had a pit bull(Sarge) that lived to be 15 yrs old. Never bit anyone in 15 years. So, its all bull, if you raise a dog right, doesn't matter what breed it is, our vet told us if you raise them to be a fighter, you'll have a fighter, raise them to be part of the family, you'll have a family dog. That dog was probally the best dog we ever owned, he was smart enough to know once we opened the door and let someone in, they belonged there. He would try and lay in their lap. Yet he was smart enough to take on the watch dog duty if the need arose. So you had the best of both worlds. We had his ears cropped and his tail taken off as a pup and he actually looked more like a powerful boxer. People were amazed when we fessed up he was actually a purebred pit bull with papers. You almost hated to tell people because instantly they thought he was a killer. The other side of the story, once that come to see how he acted they realized their all not a killer, its all in how you treat and raise them.
We finally, after 15 years had to have it put to sleep due to its legs going bad. My husband said it was the worse thing he ever had to do, we miss that dog.
We had a poodle years ago that with age bit everyone that came in our house, so there you have it.
Our pitbull never even ever attacked another dog. We had neigbors that had a little 3 pound white dog that never quite yakking.....he would come charging over at our dog if it was laying in the grass, our pitbull would totally ignore it, little did that dog know, if our dog wanted to....one bite and that little yapper would be history. So you see people, just because its a pitbull, doesn't make it a killer.

I have no problem with pit bulls whatsoever. But to answer your question, the problem with pits is the same as it is for any other popular breed. They have been over bred by irresponsible breeders. This causes the breed to have health and temperment problems. Certainly there are some wonderful pits, but as with any breed there are the bad ones too. The breed does have a tendency to be animal aggressive if not trained properly. But so do some other breeds. The other issue is that they seem to be a more dominant breed than say, the average lab, so, this means that they have to have proper training and handling. My own breed of choice tends to have these characteristics as well. As with any other breed, pits need to have someone that is educated and has the right personality to handle them.

For people who have had a profoundly negative experience with a pitbull, or any dog for that matter, the brain and limbic system form this shortcut to action when encountering any similar thing. For people that are scared of lots of things naturally (terrorists, car rides, meteors, hell, etc) the brain will help them be more afraid when they read the negative stuff out there about Pits.

Mostly, it is truly ignorance of the breed (or anything) that causes great fear of it. Knowledge is power, knowing the breed or that you are several hundred times more likely to die in a car accident than from a terrorist can help defuse fear and help rationality.

More children are maimed and killed by their own parents than by all dogs put together, including pitbulls.

You raised some really good points. Little dogs bite all the time, but no one makes a big deal because it doesn't do any real damage. My moms pom tries to bite me whenever I brush him!

I had a friend get part of her nose taken off by the bite of a pitbull. However, she was doing drugs at the time, so I'm assuming maybe it was a dealers dog who probably used it for gaurding/protection.

So it's just like you say, it's all in how you raise the dog. I've known some really sweet pits. But I, like many others, am weary of pits I don't know, because I don't know how they were raised. I have a chow so I experience peoples "mean breed" sterotype. But my chow is a sweetie pie!

I agree with you:) I dont think that its that people HATE them I think that ts more that their AFRAID of them.. I have one her name is Alazaya and she is the sweetest ptti you will ever meet:) They afraid of them cause of all the stupid stuff people say about them and the people that use them for fighting dogs they are trained to kill.. I honestly think that people could adopt a fighting dog you just would have to keep them away from other dogs. Me personally if I dint have my babies I would take a fighting og in a heart beat:) I love pitbulls and I would do anything in the world for them:) Yes they are NOT the only breed that is aggressive:( Every single dog ever put on this earth can be mean can kill they just have to be trained too!!!
Pitbulls are not used for guard dogs... They dont make real good guard dogs.. Thats mainly for Rottweilers(Which I have one of those too) Doberman etc... If your dog turns on you that dog must have felt threatened or they scare the dog.. No dog id going to turn there back unless they have a reason... Im gonna give you a star this is an interesting topic....Hope you find the asnwers your lookin for GOOD LUCK!!!

I actually used to hate pit bulls until I adopted a mixed one from the pound and found out what wonderful dogs they can be. Since, I have met other people with pits as pets and find that these dogs that are cared for properly and loved are sweet dogs. I believe people hate pits for the same reason they may hate a certain group of people. Misunderstanding, stereotypes, lack of experience, and the media may contribute to a person's dislike of something. I used to hate pits because I thought people only owned them for fighting or to look tough, and I was truly convinced that was all the dogs could amount to. When I adopted my dog, I found out I was very wrong.

First of all pit bulls were originally bred to fight each other for entertainment in the twenties. The breed was bred to be strong jawed, and agressive towards other dogs. They instinctually have a drive that puts them at risk to be dog dominant. Second of all even well trained pitbulls have attacked small children due to this prey/dominanace instinct. While I agree with you that many pits are simply mistreated and this leads to their high profile bad reputation, please don't be so confident that all of its reputation is not deserved

LACK OF EDUCATION AND AN ABUNDANCE OF IGNORANCE!!! If you look at stats, they will tell you that the frequency of fatal dog attacks are inflicted by MANY, MANY more breeds then pitbulls. For god sakes, Pitbulls were known to be the popular choice of dog by old ladies!!! I am adopting an 11 month old pitbull/sheppard, and I know I will never regret the choice. We live in a society where people feed off others dirty laundry, and nobody wants to hear about the countless other vicious, yet smaller dog attacks, a bigger dog tends to liven up the story, in a sick way!!!

I do not hate Pit Bulls, but unfortunately owners trained them to be agressive. A myth for dog owners--"My dog does not bite", your dog does not bite you because you are the owners, the dog bread & butter. Dogs are loyal, terrorital and unpredictable.
Pit Bulls are very loyal to this owner & terrorital, but not to strangers. Why should Postal Carrier, Newspaper or Delivery Person just doing this job be subject to Dog Attacks?
I was living in a fourplex, one neighbor owned a Pit Bull. He
actually had Dog fights in the inclosed garage. Postal Carrier refused to deliver mail, because Pit Bull was not tied up. One day, he lunged at me ripping my slacks. Talking to the owner, was no use, claiming "My Dog does not bite".
One day, stay home from work, he had Dog fight in garage called SPCA & Police. Then gave 30-day notice to landlord.

Unfortunately, dogs have owners that are not responsible.
