i got my first period on the 23rd dec, so that's about a month on. i know it probs won't be regular but do you think it will most likely come back around then or i shouldn't count on it coming back for a while?

yeah, i'm not 100% sure about this sort of thing, my mom died when i was 5 so i don't talk to anyone about it.

thanks for any answers in advance....

Periods can be irregular at first when you start. My sister was 16 when she started. You may be irregular or not. Be prepared for it to return soon.

A lot of girls can have 'false starts' before they get their mense (first period)- I did. You'd know depending on how heavy the bleed you had was. If it was light and watery, then that's probably not it.

If it was your mense, then it is likely to be irregular to start with. It can take a while to settle into the cycle that you hear about, but things like stress or bad health can throw it off, too.

What I would suggest is to be prepared for it to come again, carrying your choice of sanitary product (pads or tampons) with you at all times so that you can't be caught unawares and to wear a panty liner at all times, too, so that you don't end up with a big red splotch on your clothes.

Girls first starting their periods aren't as sensitive to the feelings that tell you that your period is coming, but you will learn, for example, that a full feeling low in your abdomen (almost as if you have to urinate) for a day or so before can mean it's coming. Everyone's 'signs' are different, but you'll learn them in time.

Most of all, don't stress about it. It's a huge milestone in your life because it means that your body is now able to carry another life inside it (the bleed is just the lining of your uterus that a baby would need to grow and live coming away because it hasn't been used) and that now you are a fully matured woman.

Congratulations!!! :)

It should come back, yes, although every woman is different. Some women are extremely regular (like myself) and some bleed one month and then not for a few months. If that is your case, talk to a doctor just to make sure everything is in order. :) You're now biologically a full grown woman and you're going to need women to talk to from time to time. Believe me, when I began my period (I was 12) I was left with more questions than answers. The older I get, the more questions I have. Fortunately, my mother was around and was a great help. I'd like you have that support as well.

I hope I'm not spamming here, but I read the Community Guidelines and it didn't say this was wrong... but... on livejournal there is a great community of women called tmi_chix. If you ever need a woman to talk to or have something really weird happen to your body, you can post there. The community is fantastic and very supportive. Also, Yahoo! Answers seems to be being pretty good to you as well. :)

Also, go to mycycle.com and create an account. It is very important that you keep track of your period. This website will create a calendar for you and it will keep track of your period. It will even tell you when you are scheduled for ovulation and it will predict your next period (with remarkable accuracy, too!). If you ever go to a doctor, print out your period report and take it with you. Knowing your menstrual cycle is incredibly important to keeping healthy and having an accurate report for your doctor will help him diagnose what is wrong just in case something does go wrong.

Also, if you ever need to go to a doctor about anything, you can go to Planned Parenthood and a doctor will see you for free. The doctor will keep everything confidential, if you like, and no one has to know about it but you. You can use this wonderful service until you are 18. If you do not know where to go, just call your local hospital and they will be glad to help you.

If you are sexually active you will need to be put on birth control. There are many different types of control you can use. Do not rely on just condoms. They are not 100% accurate. They rip, tear, and semen leaks out of them. Even a hole so small that you can't see it could cause a pregnancy, so don't rely on your eyes if you ever inspect a condom first. You can use the NuvaRing which I've only heard great things about. It's a ring you put inside of your vagina and you just leave it there. You can't feel it and it's less annoying than popping a pill everyday. Of course, there is the actual pill and I'm not sure if they do micro-chipping anymore. Either way, expect some side effects when you go on the pill. One side effect can even be your period disappearing! (Not that I think that is necessarily a good thing) It also helps with acne.

Now for your gear. You can use pads, but I honestly don't understand how women can tolerate these. However, they are safe but can cause some rather unpleasant and unwanted odors in your pants. Plus, I personally think they are uncomfortable. There are tampons, which is what I use, but you have to make sure to get the appropriate kind whether you are a light bleeder, regular or heavy. Also, be sure to change it every 6 hours. I like Tampax Pearl the best. Also, you can get a Diva Cup which are great! I have not used one yet but all my female buddies just love it. It's not messy (although I have heard some hysterical stories about messes when you take it out) and I believe you don't have to worry about emptying it constantly. Plus, I heard you can't feel it. I do not know much about the Diva Cup so I took the liberty of finding some information for you.

I hope all that information helps you out and prepares you for your life as a woman. Once again, congratulations!!

most women have a menstrual cycle that is 18, 23, 28 days and some times 32 days, because you are just starting it might not happen every month for the first year, it is nothing to be concerned about, and as well please try to find a person that you can go to to ask any questions, that you need or want an answer to.. If there is absolutely no one you feel comfortable and have questions please email me I do accept emails just click on my profile and it will be there. OK best of luck

I'm sure it will do. Sometimes I've heard about people who've had irregular periods for the first three years they menstruated.

You're not that late a bloomer - my cousin only started when she was 16! I, however, started when I was almost 10, so I was very early.
