Hello,

Attached is a photo of my dream dog. Is it a Lakeland or a Welsh or…? I want my first dog to be a Lakeland or a Welsh if that is what this is…any advice on that? How do they differ? I live in a house, but it is small and apartment-ish. They seem hard to find for some reason in California. Do you have any photos, pricing, information to sent me? Or a newsletter to join? I live in Los Angeles. Attached is a photo of my dream dog. Is it a Lakeland? If not, what is it? Do you have that look like this? What does it mean when it says they have had tails and dew claws done? Do you think it would be possible to find a hand plucker here, or can I learn it myself? I understand they need to be hand plucked? Thank you so much! Your advice and knowledge much appreciated!

NEITHER is an ideal"first dog"!
BOTH are *REAL* terriers w/all that entails.

GO to the AKC site & READ the BREED STANDARDS!!!
Contact the PARENT CLUBS!

BOTH are HAND-STRIPPED breeds-Do NOT "clipper"! Hand-stripping is NOT "rocket science" & ANY good terrier breeder/handler can show you how.
BOTH breeds are DOCKED & dew claws removed at around *3DAYS* old. It's NOT "cruel" btw.
BOTH breeds are relatively "rare"...which means they're "pricy" but also that they are NOT found & bred by every GREEDY MORON down the road.

If *I* was looking at either breed,*I* go for the lakie, because *I* hunt/work my terrires & a Welsh is too big for the dens in my area. BUT.....lakies are "hotter" than the Welsh & so would be the lesser choice for a novice.

*****RESEARCH,GO TO SHOWS,MEET the breeds IN THE FLESH!!!!******
Do ****NOT****** depend on a PICTURE!!!

First of all, there is no pic attached, so I can't help you out.

Those are lakeland terriers.

Those are welsh terries.

Your house should be fine to raise a dog as long as it is able to be taken out on a regular basis. Dogs can only hold their bladder for one hour per month of age. Also, you should not have to crate it for more than 8 hours a day.

To have their tails and dew claws done means that their tails have been docked (cut short) and their dew claws have been removed (the claw that is on the upper part of the foot). This is not necessary, but if you wish to show the dog it may be a breed requirement.

If you want more information about terriers check out the AKC website for breed standards!
