"Mariandl", the Austrian diminutive of the girl's name "Marianne", is the title of a once highly popular song composed by the Austrian Hans Lang (1908-1992; text by Martin Costa) for the movie "Der Hofrat Geiger" (1947), in which Waltraut Haas played Mariandl, the illegitimate daughter of a woman who runs an inn in the picturesque Wachau valley. In 1961, Haas would play Mariandl's single mother in a remake entitled "Mariandl" (with Connie Froboess playing the girl). 1962 a sequel, titled 1962 entstandenen Fortsetzung "Mariandls Heimkehr" ("Mariandl's return") came out.

The original film song was sung by Maria Andergast.
